Some custom makers that I would like to make recommendations on

Rick: I CAN NOT wait to see your new site and knives!! I got a tease on another site, about your new automatic knife!! All I can say is WOW!!! I am stoked!! I can not wait to see all your new stuff!!! Oh boy!! Oh boy!! Oh boy!! I feel like a kid at Christmas!!!

I would also add Criag Camerer JS and Matt Lamey to the list of Reasonably priced Excellent knives.

Some very cool knives, by some outstanding makers.
I would like to second the recommendation of Robert Crowder, I think he is
one of Montana's top makers. And one heck of a knife for the money.

Y'all remember KIT CARSON---he's still around. :D

There are a lot of excellent makers. Remember what Steven limited himself to though: "concentrating on makers that knives can READILY be had from, for around the $500.00 mark, or under".

If you know of kit carson's knives readily available for $500.... :D ;)

Colin Cox (formerly of Randall) makes some really good hand forged knives at a resonable price. He made me a Chicago legal (2.5 inch) knife for $175.

Would second Pat Crawford. I bought one of his folders used and I prize it highly.
Scott Cook's folder is almost too good to use and cheap at $495.

Talked wth Andrew at the SOS and if you ant a knife and I will not say cheap but priced right you had better call or email Andrew now!!!! His work is amazing for I not only looked at it but talked to him about it.

Darrel Ralph - AXD and Bali's are generally available or with a short wait time depending on what you want.

I will wholeheartedly agree with those above who say Rick Hinderer is one of the best who has knives readily available in the $500 and below price range.

Another great maker who is in that price range is JL Williams, but his wait time is about a year, so I don't know if that qualifies as "readily available".

Charles Marlowe and Sal Manaro also make great knives in the stated price range, but their wait times are about 8 months to a year as well.

New collectors HAVE got to learn some degree of patience, otherwise they are bound to be very frustrated when they learn about the knifemaker's delivery time equation, which generally works out to promised delivery time + 3-6 months. ;)

Steven, the delivery time you specified makes sense. And I definitely agree with you; delays are a fact of life when it comes to ordering custom knives.

BTW, that Fogg that you donated to the Raymond Richard benefit auction was an amazing gesture.

Myself speaking I met Andrew Jordan at the SOS and his work is at Mastersmith now if you want him you had better get on him quick for he will only get busier.

I did it with Don's blessing.

Nick is spiffing it up.

It is karma in practice. Regardless of what Brownshoe said to me in another post, I believe in karma. I live the good and bad, every day.

I hope that Raymond is able to live his life without seeing another fire destroy the tools of his trade.

I did it for his wife, children(if he has any) and his animals.

Not for him.

Best Regards,

I understand it was the first knife Don made when he started making knives again. May 2002. Is that correct? It was a grand gesture Steven and your support of the knife community is a source of pride for us all.But thank you most of all for turning me on to Don Fogg,I think I am in the process of acquiring a Don Fogg in the not to distant future. :)
