I prefer tip up but there are some knives that just seem eight with tip down, like the Military

My least favorite thing about this discussion every time it comes up is all the people saying how they have never had to deploy a blade, and that opening speed is not something that ever matters, and that anyone who talks about it sounds tacticool, etc. etc. etc.

First off, there are a lot of people who just enjoy being able to get out and open their knives as quickly and easily as possible and there's nothing wrong with that. Second, just because you don't need to doesn't mean that nobody has a need to be able to get to and open their knife quickly. We don't all have the same lives, jobs, or needs for our knives.

Blade orientation means absolutely nothing to me, I've never noticed an extra deployment step on tip down knives I've had but maybe that's because they were in a left pocket.
All I care about on a knife with a pocket clip is that it's at the end for ergonomic reasons, this means tip up but that's not what matters to me.

I'm the opposite. For carry I prefer tip up, but I feel ergonomics are almost always better when the clip is at the pivot end. So much so that if I carry a knife tip down, it's because I dislike the ergonomics so much with the clip on the butt end.

Yeah..I’m just stubborn and stick to what I know and like I suppose. It’s like throwing a ball with your non dominant hand..sure you look like a girl the first couple throws but after that, I’m sure you’ll get the hang of it
I prefer tip up, but tip down isn't a deal-breaker, and I "look like a girl" no matter how I "deploy" my knife.

I still don't have a preference either way since the last tip up/down thread. The safety aspect of having the spine of the blade ride against the seam of the pocket makes sense, but I've never had a knife of good quality accidentally open in my pocket.

I don't concern myself with speed of "deployment" either. If you find yourself in a situation where you need to deploy your pocket knife with lightening speed....well, you've already made too many mistakes! ;)

All of my knives with clips are configured for tip-up carry. I'm sure I could learn to make deployment feel just as natural tip-down, but with tip-up I like the security of knowing that in the unlikely event the blade pops out in my pocket, it's up against the seam and has nowhere to go.

I've never bought a knife that could only be carried tip-down, and don't plan to. That could change for the right knife (the Millie has always been tempting), like any of my other knife preferences. ;)

One of the littlest things I'm happiest to see on a knife I like, selfishly, is when it's only tapped for tip-up, right-hand carry, so there are no little holes I don't need all over the handle. :D

Tip up for me, just a personal preference and I have some knives that are waved and of course they should be tip up to utilize this feature. I dont have a problem with tip down, just most of my knives seem to be setup for tip up.

Doesn’t matter to me.
If I like the knife, I buy the knife.
I have a couple that are tip down only and have no issues with them at all.......but till now I haven’t been attacked by brain eating zombies so speed of deployment hasn’t been an issue for me.......YET!

Besides, when the zombies come you won't want a folder, you'll need a neon green Z-Slayer machete.

Tip up for me. Not for ergo or quick draw reasons but because of where I like to carry my knife; right front pocket against outside edge. Tip up let's me keep the spine of the blade SAFELY pressed against the outer seam of my pocket.

If I ever encounter a tip down knife that I can't live without I'll switch it to right rear pocket carry.

I prefer tip up but will go tip down if it is the only option and the detent is strong as I mostly carry RFP.

BTW, there is a woman on the local softball team. She looks like a typical skinny attractive college girly girl. Plays third base. She puts a snap on a throw to first harder than I've ever seen man or woman. Take your damn head off without you even knowing it gets there so fast. My daughter can throw a football as good as most boys. This whole "throw like a girl" thing is a myth propogated and suported by misogyny.

If my Millie was meant to be carried more than one way, Sal would have put more holes in it.

It fine just the way it is.
