Harry and I dreamed up this little idea:

An Everest Kothimoda Katana made in the style of the Sanu Bhimsen Special.

Silver mounted Katana with carved wood handle.

Scabbard would be carved wood, with silver or brass bands depending on the color of the wood used.

Silver inlays could be added or semi-precious stones could be added to the carvings, maybe as the "eyes" of the dragons or swans in the carvings.

....I can see a picture in my mind of this

Harry, anything to add?

We're doing good so far, let's see what other inspirations we can add to this.

P.S. - I think we should call ourselves the "Kothimoda Kids".

Each new H.I. Everest Katana that comes out really shines! The Kamis seem to have gotten the hang out of making these puppies!

Uncle Bill, what number is this one?

Maybe, when we have some future H.I. Khukuri gathering, we could do some tamashigiri cutting contests. A group shot with all H.I. Katana owners would also be nice.

Ray, I've lost track. I think maybe 20 or 25 so far. They are getting the hang of it but each one is a little different. I guess they are trying to improve and reach some standard model. But Bura, Sanu and Kumar all have their own ideas and style so we may never get to a standard model -- maybe three but not one.

Gregg,

Interesting to see you posted a link over in the Spyderco forum.

I have always had at least a few Spyderco knives at my disposal. I am partial to the Native and the Dyad.

....and YES, you do need an EKK!!!!!!

Ummmmm Uncle, just out of curiosity, what's the wait time on something like this?

Tom

PS, am I hallucinating, or was Jim march involved in the initial development of the Everest katana? Has he seen these pics? I bet he never thought it would turn out like this.

Tom,

Yes, Jim March was heavily involved in bringing the katana project to fruition. He contributed an 19th century katana that the kamis took apart and used as a template for the HI Katana.

I'd love to see the expression on his face when he sees where this has gone and is likely to go in the future...

Had the EKK a couple weeks now. I like it even more. I even fondle it while browsing around on the internet. Pretty goofy picture...man with sword sitting at computer.
