I know many of you might have already seen this so disregad if you did because it's meant for the company to watch them.

Me and some others have expressed the desire for a while now that some models should have smaller, 3" versions.
First it was the Para2 and then the Southard.
As you can see it can be done and people buy them.
I've seen other "mini" southards on YT made by people who have the tools for it so why don't you produce them?
I understand you don't need to but it would be nice, specially for a company that often listens to their customers ;)

Oh, just a side note, make the blade on the 3" Southard thinner so it can slice :D

Thanks

Wow, I disagree with you, I'd like a bigger Southard and PM2. :)

They can't keep up with demand on the Para 2 as is.
Another version would slow them down even more, and I don't think a smaller version would sell very well anyway.
I don't see it happening. Just my opinion though.

I also agree. They fit my hand great. If you want a smaller spyderco believe me that they have several smaller ones to choose from. They may even have more smaller ones than larger ones.

Dragonfly
Lava
Delica
Meerkat
Dice
Chaparral
Native
Firefly
Kiwi
Kiwi 4
Grasshopper
Techno
Chubby

And many more that I am forgetting because I don't like the smaller knives.

Bah, there are a ton of small folders available.

Now, 4 inch blade length folders? Nowhere near enough.

I want a 4 inch blade, full flat ground, aggressive (think Yojimbo 2) wharncliffe with a flipper on ball bearing washers. Liner lock, G 10 scales, classic Spyderco ergonomics, but with a slimmer profile.

Please!

I would really like a smaller southard. I like the smaller flippers, but I'm just not a fan of the overall looks and especially of the CF laminate on the Dice/domino.

Plus they could make it a bit more affordable so I don't as screwed by the european price of it...

That sounds like a near perfect knife! I'd personally trade the G10 for carbon fiber of some variant, but that could very well be a sprint run of it.

Well once again my head is spinning! Spyderco already makes a huge number of small knives. What Spyderco needs to do is make more big folders. They've taken a step in the right direction with the Szabo,Tatanka and Farid.
I really don't know why anyone would want more small folders. Are there really that many teeny weeny little munchkins out there?

Nope, no munchkins just people that like to carry a knife that isnt larger than they need on a daily basis. I find a 3" blade is as big as I need in normal day to day life. Of course there are times I prefer a larger knife but my edc knife get much more use.
YES there are many small knives that fit in this size range but none can compare to what a smaller PM2 would be.
If your curious here is the breakdown of my thoughts on the above knives
Dragonfly - don't care for the the ergos, boring midlock
Lava - thought I'd really like this one until I got it in hand, hated the ergo for an edc knife, boring midlock
Delica - my first spyderco, OK one of the better ones listed here but no finger choil, boring midlock and I prefer g10
Meerkat - never bought one, don't care for the blade shape and I NEED tip up carry
Dice - if I stumble upon one for a good price I will buy solely because of the size. I don't need a flipper but I don't mind having it. I do dislike liner and in this case frame locks.
Chaparral - have 2 but again boring midlock.
Native - my favorite in this list and only one critique; boring midlock
Firefly - boring midlock
Kiwi
Kiwi 4 - boring midlock
Grasshopper - boring, well you know.
Techno - blade shape, frame lock, blade stock too fat
Chubby - too chubby ;)

So as you can see and I think many would agree what we are really advocating is more diversity in locks on the little big knives. I would love a Native 5 with a compression lock. Easy one handed opening has always been high on my priority list for my edc knife. I find the compression and captured ball bearing lock much more user friendly than spydercos other offerings.
To those craping on this thread saying such a knife wouldn't sell maybe you should write benchmade and get them to stop producing mini griptillians, mini presidios and countless other knifes that would fill this nich if they had a choil and opening hole.

These "customer requested" small knife proposals don't interest me at all.

However , I'm very excited about the Chubby and can't wait for it to become available.

I may be out of my element with this but I'm going to just put it out there. I'm not sure I get it...the whole "mini" thing. I dig the smaller concept but like others have said there are better choices already out there. Modifying/cutting down an already perfect sized knife just doesn't make much sense to me. I just don't think a "mini" PM2 or Southard is relevant to Spyderco's already awesome line-up. JMO.

I am having a left handed Military shrunk down just because there are very few quality left handed liner locks. I like the Military in its stock size also, just would like to have one that is more edc friendly.

So you didn't think the paramilitary 1 or 2 were relevant to Spydercos awesome line up either? The paramilitary was made to be a smaller scaled down military...

i completely agree with everything you said brother :)

A 3.5" blade is as long as I will carry and more than I ever need. Most recently, I've fallen in love with the Dragonfly as a take-everywhere-deep-in-my-pocket knife but I still carry a larger knife clipped to another pocket. I've tried carrying a Sage 1 and a Delica but I just like the design, shape, heft and feel of the Gayle Bradley and the Paramilitary 2 best. I love the Bradley and PM2 but I might love them more if they were 3". It would certainly be nice to try them out in that configuration.
