Some food for thought Spyderco

I want the opposite of what the OP wants. I want more Endura sized knives in the $100 price range. Spyderco has been putting out enough expensive, sawed-off knives/sprints lately like the New sage 3, Karahawk, Lava, Domino, Dyad, Battlestation, Dice, Kiwi G-10.

Cutting down a Southard to make it smaller? Ehh... That makes me cringe. I don't like modding knives to the point of no return.
For a smaller Spyderco Southard, I think I'll just wait for that Southard Ion. :D

Peter and I have been toying around with a "chopped" para2 design, but as mentioned, it will be a while before we can add too many new models in the US plant. construction is currently under way, but all good things take time. Persistence is king and patience helps.

Price is directly related to our cost. Materials and country of origin determine cost and thus price. What is it you are seeking?

Bah, there are a ton of small folders available.

Now, 4 inch blade length folders? Nowhere near enough.

I want a 4 inch blade, full flat ground, aggressive (think Yojimbo 2) wharncliffe with a flipper on ball bearing washers. Liner lock, G 10 scales, classic Spyderco ergonomics, but with a slimmer profile.

Please!

I was thinking about this the other day, I would love a Yojibmo XL.

I would love a smaller Para and Southard. I think that knives in the 3" range would do very well in Municipalities that have length restrictions.

So you didn't think the paramilitary 1 or 2 were relevant to Spydercos awesome line up either? The paramilitary was made to be a smaller scaled down military...
He didn't say the regular pm2, he said "mini" pm2 and Southard. ...

I think the upcoming Rubicon with a 3" blade, flipper and premium CF scales will satisfy my thirst for a 3" Spyderco flipper quite nicely.

I recently started enjoying more on the small side of knives 2 1/2" -3 1/4" blades, I think the para 2 and southard should be left alone by spyderco, and more focus on new knives that are in that size range, the pm2 is an iconic knife and should be left that size, all the potential knives I might buy that size are frame locks which am not the biggest fan of ( techno, domino and dice.) the caly 3 is a great knife.

P.S.
Dear Sal,

Please make more knives in Super Blue.

Sincerely,
The Entire Knife Community

I would love a couple bigger knives from spyderco. A bigger southard would be a good start. No interest in smaller versions.

Nothing makes everyone happy. No matter what Spyderco produces, some will want it larger, some will want it smaller, some will want it thicker, some will want it thinner, some will want it lighter, some will want it "beefier", some will want the handle and'or the blade a different color, some will want a different handle material and/or texture, and some will want it in a different steel. At some point, a custom is the most realistic way to get exactly what you want.

These "customer requested" small knife proposals don't interest me at all.

However , I'm very excited about the Chubby and can't wait for it to become available.

Just wait until you have your Chubby in your hand! I guarantee it will feel great. Back on topic, and out of Whine and Cheese, did someone say the Dragonfly was boring?? Shame on you sir!

The spyderco junior is woefully underrated. It has a compression lock, great ergos, and carries smaller than a delica.

Nope, no munchkins just people that like to carry a knife that isnt larger than they need on a daily basis. I find a 3" blade is as big as I need in normal day to day life. Of course there are times I prefer a larger knife but my edc knife get much more use.
YES there are many small knives that fit in this size range but none can compare to what a smaller PM2 would be.
If your curious here is the breakdown of my thoughts on the above knives
Dragonfly - don't care for the the ergos, boring midlock
Lava - thought I'd really like this one until I got it in hand, hated the ergo for an edc knife, boring midlock
Delica - my first spyderco, OK one of the better ones listed here but no finger choil, boring midlock and I prefer g10
Meerkat - never bought one, don't care for the blade shape and I NEED tip up carry
Dice - if I stumble upon one for a good price I will buy solely because of the size. I don't need a flipper but I don't mind having it. I do dislike liner and in this case frame locks.
Chaparral - have 2 but again boring midlock.
Native - my favorite in this list and only one critique; boring midlock
Firefly - boring midlock
Kiwi
Kiwi 4 - boring midlock
Grasshopper - boring, well you know.
Techno - blade shape, frame lock, blade stock too fat
Chubby - too chubby ;)

So as you can see and I think many would agree what we are really advocating is more diversity in locks on the little big knives. I would love a Native 5 with a compression lock. Easy one handed opening has always been high on my priority list for my edc knife. I find the compression and captured ball bearing lock much more user friendly than spydercos other offerings.
To those craping on this thread saying such a knife wouldn't sell maybe you should write benchmade and get them to stop producing mini griptillians, mini presidios and countless other knifes that would fill this nich if they had a choil and opening hole.

Please, Spyderco, make this knife!

What makes a back lock boring other than to those that play with their knives more than they use them? I guess it's more difficult to whip out and back in with the Nutnfancy sounds and all.
