Some great models at great prices for 12/2. Pix and steals.

:D

That WWII is the most beautiful of the style I recall seeing.
Wow.

Hmmmmm.....

I have two WWII's and neither has a blade that willowy looking. Almost like a cross between an AK and a Sirupati. Nice long handle as well. Good snag!

That WWII - wow - thankfully it has gone. Not the HI tanto the usual WWII get called.

Darn!!! I just sent 145 for a Bura 18-inch WWII!! :(

Oh, well. Still worth it. The upshots are that I got a Bura (favorite Kami) and it's new, not blem.

But that's all said through gritted teeth! That WWII is absolutely beautiful. That blade shape is staggering. That should be a new style all its own!

One of us got luckier...now I'm curious who would have got it had there only been one. My mail left at 13:13...would you have beat me? :D

Man, the Kumar karda and JKM are beautiful with those antler handles ! If I didn't already have my favorite, Dan-reworked JKM I'd snap one up. What deals !

Can't rightly say. I didn't keep a copy, and wasn't paying exact attention to the time. Only know that it was within a minute or 2 of UB's posting going up.

I'll thank my lucky stars then...it was a pure fluke that I got back to my desk when I did and just happened to click in to see them...they are beautiful, aren't they?

I wasn't as lucky with the Sarge's though...

BTW the infamous box from HI arrived today! Here's the kicker: It's a Christmas present from my dad. He told me to pick one out from HI, so I got the 18-inch wood-handled WWII by Bura. Can't wait!

The downside: I can't open it 'till Christmas!! WHY, GOD, WHY!!!!???!!!

I would really love to have one of those antler KArdas.
Any left?
just my price too.
I want to order it, then give it to Takako and have her wrap it and give it to me at Christmas.
(I have to teach her how to shop for me. I liked the 101 dalmation flannel pajamas, but an Antler handled kumar karda is slightly more interesting to me...)

What's left?

The Kothimoda and maybe a couple of Kumar kardas or JKMs?

Can't believe I didn't notice this until looking at the same pic for the tenth time 9 hours later (or that no one else did either!): look at the handle at that Sgt. Karka WWII blem (for $85!!!). That ain't no regular WWII handle. Unique blade shape, and with a chiruwa handle to boot!

If I had to classify it, it would be as a slightly fatter sirupati with chiruwa handle.

A real one of a kind! Nice snag to whoever got it.

Namaarie, I know just how you feel. If you want to get it now and not wait for it to possibly roll up on one the the DOTD or UBBB, then you just gotta pay for it! But you'll make it up down the road on the daily deals, and $145 for a Bura WWII will hold it's value forever. Everytime I start thinking about how I paid too much for this or that, I start comparing it to run of the mill factory production knives, and all of a sudden I realize what a great value these knives really are!

Regards,

Norm

P.S. I just noticed: AND it has a standard bolster and no cho creep as well! AND the sheath is very unique looking with a very heavy grain to the leather. (Geez, next time I look at it I'll see real gold inlay...)

How come I couldn't be that perceptive and see all this in the first 1 minute after it hit the boards? Oh, well, can't win 'em all. :)

Svashtar,

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I feel pretty good about things, though. First it's a gift, meaning I don't have to pay. Of course, I'm saving for presents for others. It took every ounce of restraint I have to stop from buying one of those Sarges earlier. Beautiful. The Xmas deals ones.

You gotta realize that I've been waiting for Christmas to get a Bura WWII as a gift. If the DOTD had been a Bura, I'd be in a total state of depression right now. But, it wasn't. While that might be, looks-wise, the prettiest Khuk I've ever seen, I think the shape of the normal WWII might be better for me.

After Xmas, if I have money left, UB had better look out. I fully intend to make whatever dent I can in his inventory! :D

Namaarie

You're right on the mark, Svashtar.

Every time I've bought something new from HI, a similar blem came up as a special within a few days. Every time I've purchased a blem, an even better deal came up shortly after that. At first, due to my typical consumerism, I got angry at myself for not being more patient: "I bought a 25" Kobra for $150 and I could've had a perfectly good user if I'd waited for only $100. I'm stupid."

Then I thought about it. Here I am, with an outstanding blade that amounts to a short sword, coming from a company with some of the best customer support in the business, an outstanding knowledge base (almost a family) here on the forums to fall back on, acres of blackberries to destroy, and an edge that gets better every time I use it. $150? A pittance. This was a bargain. The prices on the website are already best buys.

That, and those little crossed-khukuri pins are pretty cool too. :D I keep one in my car, pinned to the sun visor, and another on my web gear. Always good for conversations. If and when my supervisor ever notices it and tells me that it's out of place, I'll convert it to a "subdued" color scheme with a black Sharpie.

My one regret? That Dui Chirra a little while back. Full set of tools, beautiful handles, an inconsequential blem, and only a little more than $100. The sharks turned their noses up at it. It had been sitting there for hours when I got home from work. (That, alone, should've raised eyebrows.) I thought and thought and thought about it. I decided to sleep on it. I woke up, decided that I wanted it, and found it gone. I am stupid for that one. But hey...all I have to do is think of the joy that it's undoubtedly giving to the person who got it and I feel a little better. (That, and they're probably not whaling on it like I would. ;) ) All things in good time. I'll get mine when it's ready for me. :)

You said it, Satori. All HI knives are deals. 145 for a nearly indestructible 18-inch knife made by the *Royal Kami of Nepal*!!! Ludicrously good price! And to top it all off, I got it from Yangdu and UB.

Life is good, just like these Khuks. I have no regret. Except for that I'm not a millionaire. :D

Satori, I know exactly what you mean, but in most cases it is guys just faster on the e-mail draw than me. Sweet right here in Salinas, and "The Killer Shark of Toronto" aka Dave Hahn come to mind! ;) Dave has 4 or 5 snags I have quietly and painfully observed that I would have loved to have made!

BTW, I have an extra 3-4 month old Dui Chirra (Berk's special) by Bura with all the tools in new shape. As you noted, the price has plunged on these, with the originals selling for $350. I paid $300 direct from UB for my first a year ago but only about half that for the second as a great UBBB. 22" and a little over 2 lbs. Not a blem. At the time I was thinking of a matched set for the wall, but might be persuaded to part with it if you had something cool to trade.

E-mail me at norm_morris@ctb.com if you are interested and we can discuss offline.

Norm
