Some interesting things happening at GEC

I believe you are right, Pete! One-hand blade and EO notch. Many ways to open that #85!!

I noticed that blade about a week ago, been waiting to see how they would do it, I've always wanted a one armed bandit, I believe the pattern was started after the Civil War for amputees returning home.

That one REALLY appeals to me! Also the Sheepsfoot Charlow!!! Now we are talking!...and to top it all off the Bullock! Im gonna be a poor man for a while it seems!

A "one-armed bandit" is a slot machine. A "one-armed man" is a type of Traditional Knife. And also a Male Homo-Sapiens missing one arm.
From AAPK W.R. Case 05
"This pattern is a two bladed 3 3/4" barlow style jack knife. They are often known as a one arm man or one armed bandit knives. Most recent 05 patterns usually have a razor master blade, but in the past, they have also been manufactured with clip or spear master blades. The second blade is always a pen blade as far as I know. When the knife has a razor style blade, it most often takes on the name one arm man. This name was given to the knife because the design of the blade has a tip that sticks out. This allows for the knife to be opened with one hand by snagging the point on a pant leg or other object. When this pattern has this style of blade, the pattern number (when there is one) is normally followed by an R, or RAZ. When the knife has a clip master blade, the pattern number may be followed with a 1/2. The 05 patterns were introduced prior to 1940. Starting sometime before 1965, the knife was only manufactured with a razor blade. The pattern was discontinued for a while starting in the late 70's. Since that time, a few have been made."

well of course!
I don't know what you're quoting, but it is absolutely the last word.

In "Collecting Case Pocket Knives" by Steve Pfeiffer, the 05 with the razor style master blade is referred to as the 'One Armed Man' or 'One Armed Man's Knife'. Pfeiffer's book is the most informative of any current book on Case knives.

It looks like it was a typo and it got fixed...

African Blackwood
Smooth Ivory Bone
Sawcut Bone
Smooth Walnut

#152113 Sawyer Barlow (Spearpoint Blades).

I want one of each. :D

Given that Charlie (waynorth) has said there would be no further Sawyer spears or clips for another year or two, and that the above cover materials are the ones specified for the upcoming Sheepsfoot run(s), I'm thinking we are still seeing some typos....

We'll know when we find out. :)

My willpower would disintegrate over a smooth ivory bone, spearpoint Charlow...

That's my thinking, the Boy's Knife may be incorrect as well..

I have taken the liberty of correcting the numbers to what they should be! In this post only of course!
I could not contact anyone at GEC.
Bill's son Billy, who does those wonderful blade grinds on our Boy's knives and Barlows, got married yesterday!! :eek:Could explain the confusion about getting the typos fixed! Let's give them some slack!!:D

Its for the better that they are not making any more 53's right now. Leaves hope for a single blade 54 ;)

Can't wait to see more of these orphan boys knives.

Question I've been meaning to ask for a while, but what exactly is smooth ivory bone? As someone having to order into Canada from the States I'd like to know what that stuff is before ordering it, lovely though it looks.
