It was my birthday yesterday (I know, 29 again), and I got some very nice presents, many of which were knife related. Despite telling my girlfriend that I was OK for knives this year, thank you, I still received several from her, which she’d located via my browser history. Whereas previously, I didn’t own a sodbuster, I now have three, and I also received one of the single-bladed Queen Work Horse line. Unfortunately, a knife ordered from GEC’s man over here, turned out to be completely the wrong knife, and has had to be returned, while the Kissing Crane Black Angus, ordered from another dealer, and advertised as being made from “high carbon Solingen steel” turned out to be stainless. Yet another knife is still ‘in the post’.

Here’s a few pics anyway.

Imperial Sodbuster

Kissing Crane Black Angus Sodbuster

Maserin Marinera

Queen Work Horse Utility

Before going boozing in the local West Yorkshire town of Huddersfield, I checked out the thriving second-hand market, which had plenty of older knives on offer, though largely overpriced. Since it was my birthday, and I was having fun, I wasn’t too bothered. I passed on a 1942 British Army clasp knife as the spring had gone completely, but I picked up the three below (shown as I bought them).

Granton ‘The Midget’ Fruit Knife

CK Budding Knife

Imperial Scout Knife (quite an unusual find over here).

Thanks for looking

Jack

Happy Birthday Jack!
Looks like a pretty good haul! That is an interesting taper to the handle on that budding knife.

You can figure out the picture. BTW, nice knives.

I hope you have a happy birthday.

Thanks a lot fellers! :D

I'd never seen a knife like this before, and I came across two. Can't remember why I rejected the other, but I kind of wish I'd bought it too now. I didn't know what it was at the time, but had an idea, and figured it looked interesting. I could only find one example online, where the handle material is described as "simulated or faux French ivory celluloid". Apparently made in Italy in the 1960's.

By coincidence, Maserin, who make one of the Sodbusters above also make a budding of grafting knife, which is how they generally look today, but you can see how the 'spur' is used in the same way as with the old CK knife.

Happy birthday Jack. Hope you had a good one. I remember my "29th," it was a particularly good one.

Wow. Er, get any other interesting gifts based on "browsing"? Heh.

Very nice! Thanks for the pictures and brief descriptions.

Is it more acceptable to say "sod" over there if it's quickly followed by "buster"?

Thanks a lot Sarah  Figured I'd have a quiet one this year (additional pics here http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...-Traditional-knife-get-a-workout-today/page36)

Another Happy Birthday wish from me Jack.

Happy belated birthday Jack.
I really like th blade profile on the Balck Angus and Queen. That girlfriend of yours is a keeper for sure! :)

Thanks Brian. I don't know if they make a Black Angus in carbon, but if not it may not be a keeper (the dealer concerned is very sloppy with his product descriptions generally). The Queen came from the same source, has quite a bit of light showing through and some side to side blade play, but hopefully it'll be a useful little knife.

Happy Birthday Jack! What a wonderful girlfriend you have. Sounds like you did it up right.

Happy birthday, friend! The sideways serrations (sidations?) on the little fruit knife are pretty neat. How does that one cut?
