A couple of days ago I finally had my shipment from Arti of Russia arrive. Some good steel, here! Just commercial samples/personal toys for now, but I hope to carry their stuff in future. I'm a big fan.

2.8mm blade stock on the machete. What I find so interesting about it is the completely enclosed tang.

They call it their "transformer" model. Packs down small enough to fit in the trunk of your car! They have a prototype right now of a bag that holds both the folding scythe and the machete, but it's not available just yet or I would have picked one up.

I respect your opinion FTB, so I will try to keep an open mind.... Which is a challenge considering Putins antics these days.

Def not a 'nice guy,' but no worse than any of the others…seriously.

Those are all very cool! That machete looks pretty wicked.

I don't support Putin in the slightest, but the folks at Arti are truly wonderful people that I'm happy to support. Much like many of us don't like our own president or prime minister but are happy to support hardworking local businesses. Arti is good peeps, yo. I can understand political bias in product choice, but it's arguably better than buying from Chinese companies with their dodgy IP practices and unknown honesty regarding materials, paying a living wage in humane working conditions, etc. With the guys at Arti I know the product is being made of quality materials by people who care. I'm friends with their VP of research and development. :)

Here's a video of their factory.

Very cool!
Am I the only one who immediately thought "In mother Russia, machete chops with you!"

More about the scythe, please! Size, handle-adjustability, durability of the design? I love a compact tool, but not one whose utility is compromised by the convenience-aspect. Can you punch holes in other blades to fit the bolt-points? Do the tang-holes comprise the strength of the blade?

33.5" folded length, 67" open. Handles can be slid up and down the length of the shaft. Durability seems fine so far, although the knob for fixing the snath in the open position feels like the plastic may be a little brittle, but that's not a big issue since the bearing surface is metal and one could easily replace the knob with a more durable one if it ever broke. The blade is 70cm nominal length (about 28") and the tang is quite sturdy. You could plausibly modify the tangs of other blades to fit the snath, but you'd have to remove the conventional knob from them which would make them useless on normal snaths. Total unit weight is 3lb 14oz. I wouldn't use it for taking out mature goldenrod thickets or saplings, but for most general mowing it'd be a fine piece of work.

I love a square-tipped ma4ete!

What is that nifty one-handed scythe called? Im looking for something exactly like that for brush removal in my yard.

My friend there translated it as a "Sekach-blade" and Google Translate seems to think it's called a "hair cutter", so I'm not really sure what to call it! But it's sort of like a hybrid of a scythe, long handled grass hook, and an American style corn hook. It's a heck of a tool--I find it works best if you use your left hand in a fixed position to hold the end steady while the right hand pushes the handle. Really lets you get woody plants nice and flush with the ground--no punji sticks! :D

Is it a standard scythe on a short handle? i may try to get a cheap brush blade and make my own if thats the case.
