Some observations from a newbie...

We need more educated newbies, pay for gold and you'll get ta see beewbies.

Welcome to the Forums, I think you'll enjoy the people.

So Doc, I got this tooth that hurts everytime I open my mouth....what should I do?? :D

Also, welcome to the madness called KNIVES!! It is a journey that you will find to be quite rewarding. Welcome aboard BF. :D :D :D

The "slippery slope" is an understatement. I went from one Buck lite knife and 12 junkers to a Sebbie, Mnandi, Graham Brothers knives and who KNOW how wany $100s of GADGETS! That is another problem with this site - WAY too much fun stuff to lose my money on...

Welcome and good luck.
David

Welcome!

But say: You mean there are actually people out there that can live with only six Spydercos in their life??? :D

I only have four Spydercos (Endura, Q, Ladybug, Native) in my accumulation. There are far too many knife companies to get hung up on just one!

Another knut is born.

Welcome to the forums Doc. Like you, I came here to learn, and ended up staying. So, enjoy the ride; it will be a sweet one.

The Bladeforums "mind control" system has captured yet another one.
MUST BUY NEW KNIFE...MUST HAVE...
Welcome Aboard

If you've got the bug you need to understand some of the economics. A $19.98 knife in a store is cheaper than a $19.98 knife on the internet. On the internet you will have to pay something like $5.00 for shipping that $19.98 knife. In a store you will have to pay sales tax. The sales tax won't match your shipping costs until your knife costs something like $70.00. If you are lucky you will find internet outlets that will skip the shipping charges if your combined purchases are somewhere up in that region. So the first place to look for your most common knife types is Walmart. You also want to give your local sporting goods, knife, or gun store a chance if they have sales.

I assume that you know how to do a Froogle search. I also know that you can support this forum if you buy from www.1sks.com.

Welcome to the Forum and enjoy your stay here. I also started with S&W - till I discovered Spyderco :)

Ahwwwww, comm'on Bob and Dave, you take me waaay to seriously :). I am sure you guys are compensating with a gazillion Sebenza's, Customs, BM's etc., most of which I wouldn't be able to afford.

Nope. Most of my knives are in the $30 - $150 range. Only very rarely do I spend more. Since Scrade went out of business OldTimers have become of interest to me, so most of the knives I've bought lately are in the $10 - $25 category.

I don't own any Chris Reeve/Busse/ER knives at all. In fact I'm turned off by the whole $300 "tactical" knife fad... But I wouldn't mind having one of each to fondle. :)

If you read my most recent topic in the Review forum, you'll get a good idea of my knife shopping habits. I'm usually a bargain shopper, and I buy a wide variety of knives.

Best Wishes,
Bob

Easy don't open your mouth. :D

Hey Erdelyi....you're practicing dentistry without a license  I could've charged him $50 for that info! Or traded him for a knife....

Thanks for the big welcome, guys! You mean Spyderco makes a knife called the "Q" ??!! That's got my name all over it :D

You mean Spyderco makes a knife called the "Q" ??!!
They used to, big difference. It was a skeletal handle and blade, with a wire lockback release. The blade was made with many different designs and corporate logos. Mine is actually an REI Q, with the REI logo cut into the blade. The generic Spyderco Q was a spyderweb design. A Google search will find you some pics.

Best Wishes,

Welcome to the insanity...

wait till you move on to custom knives... :D

You'll find that quality over quantity will save you in the long run. It's also easier to trade mid-high range knives when you want something different.
