Bob, if you're really uncomfortable doing the distal taper- I'd lot rather see you finish it without it, than to end up chucking this one!

Nick, I think I'm going to finish this one out the way it is. One of my other purposes in making this was because I wanted to try heat treating it myself with a two brick forge. I have a lot of little victories in this so far and I feel like I need to be a little safer so I can complete it. Since I made a pattern I will probably do another one soon and grind in the distal taper before starting the bevels. I appreciate all the help from you and all the others who are so generous with their knowledge.
