Stan has been diagnosed with a very large tumor on his lower jaw.
I have been worried about him for three weeks now as he has been having bleeds from out of his mouth. I first thought he had bitten his tongue so didnt worry too much until the other day.
I managed to open his mouth and feel around inside, I first thought he had lost a tooth and have been looking inside his mouth every day.
Yesterday I had him in good light and was able to have a good look, it was a sight that Ive seen many times in cattle, so I knew deep down what it was.
The vet today confirmed my worst thoughts and he has been booked in next Monday for exploratory surgery and a core sample will be sent away to confirm if its malignant or not.
Our vet as warned me that his hopes are not very high and that also hes not confident that he could operate successfully and that it may take a specialist, if he is savable.
My wife and I are still in shock as he seems well and happy within himself, in fact he was running around early this morning trying to get a game on with Bonnie, our Kelpie.
I will keep you updated as I know that many of you have a soft spot for Stan, he turned five last September 22nd.
Cheers,
Ian.
