Some really bad news

Stan has been diagnosed with a very large tumor on his lower jaw.

I have been worried about him for three weeks now as he has been having bleeds from out of his mouth. I first thought he had bitten his tongue so didn’t worry too much until the other day.

I managed to open his mouth and feel around inside, I first thought he had lost a tooth and have been looking inside his mouth every day.

Yesterday I had him in good light and was able to have a good look, it was a sight that I’ve seen many times in cattle, so I knew deep down what it was.

The vet today confirmed my worst thoughts and he has been booked in next Monday for exploratory surgery and a core sample will be sent away to confirm if it’s malignant or not.
Our vet as warned me that his hopes are not very high and that also he’s not confident that he could operate successfully and that it may take a specialist, if he is savable.

My wife and I are still in shock as he seems well and happy within himself, in fact he was running around early this morning trying to get a game on with Bonnie, our Kelpie.

I will keep you updated as I know that many of you have a soft spot for Stan, he turned five last September 22nd.
Cheers,
Ian.

Ian, sorry to hear this. I have been through this many times and it never gets easier.

Really sorry to hear that. Sucks to have a sick buddy, furry or not. I hope everything turns out OK. Please keep us updated.

Oh Ian, I am so sorry to hear that. I know exactly how you feel, I have lost two danes recently to illness and it just guts you. Murray and I send our best mate, we hope everything works out well.

If he is feeling great than he will more than likely be great! Thats my hope and Im sticking to it! We have had working dogs that have gone thru some amazing things and survived them to live a long and happy one!!! Good luck with him Ian.

Hey I hope everything works out for your buddy! Dogs are more like family instead of just being pets.

Ian,

I hope Stan gets better. I will be praying for him and you. Take care!

Smoke rising from Penn's woods... I'm very sorry to hear this about Stan, he is one cool dog. I hope that his condition is better than currently feared, and that he will be back to full health in no time.

Bad news indeed Ian.

Give him a good ole pat for us mate. Hope all goes well.

My sincerest regards. Wishing you guys the best. I have had to deal with 3 dogs getting cancer and it is very difficult . You guy's are in my prayers

Thanks again everyone.
He is bleeding from the mouth nearly constantly now; his biopsy is on Monday morning at 10.00am.
I’m still hoping for good news with that and hoping that the vet can do something to stop the bleeding.
Ian.

Some good news,

Stan has stopped bleeding and has had a good night’s sleep. :D
The antibiotics seem to have kicked in a little and he was out early this morning trying to get a game on with his Kelpie mate.

We are not fooling ourselves though, but it has given us a little more hope.
