Some really nice oosik

I would have to guess some sort of herring pattern.
There is nothing better than saltwater flyfishing. When I lived in Humboldt County in Northern CA, I used to catch ling cod on a big white pattern I tied from a piece of tanned fur I found on the beach. It smelled like wet dog so my buddies called it the doghair. It worked. Good luck with the halibut, and thanks for the chance.

Hi Mike, Yes, I did plan to tie some big, weighted, herring patterns, but I haven't tied them yet. I'm sure they will work, I will let you guys know.

Hi timos-, No. 23 is your's, thank you very much. I like the sand eel idea, but that's not it.

So far, no-one has been guessing any crustaceans.....mmm

Hehe How about a "crabby morning" pattern!

Mark,

Whatever fly it is, you have to post a pic on your blog. You have me very curious.
I would guess it is a dungeness crab pattern, but I can't for the life of me figure how I would tie a big huge dungeness pattern.
Good contest.

Mark,

That crab fly is awesome. The only problem I see with it is that you are going to shed a tear when a toothy old halibut chomps on it as it couldn't be easy to tie. Awesome work on the flies...the tying can be as addictive as the fishing. Good luck with the halibut this summer.
