What part of the Potomac ????

I've canoed and fished most of it in my life there, and often get a wee bit homesick here in Georgetown Texas for a real river. Theres some things about Maryland and the D.C. area that I miss.

What part of the Potomac ????

I put in at Pennyfield, and paddled a short way upstream to where the riffles just downstream from Violettes end:

(The river was obviously flooded when these Google images were taken)

Here is a picture of the same stretch of river, from last summer:


The whole stretch of river from Brunswick downstream to Pennyfield is pretty much my home range, and has been since I was a child. I remember you mentioned before you were from the area, and also enjoyed canoeing on the Potomac.

We used to put in at Edwards Ferry, Whites Ferry, Nolands Ferry, Point Of Rocks, Pennyfield. Oh man, your post brings back memories!!!!!! Down here in this part of Texas, what they call a river is just a creek back home.

That's funny When I moved from Michigan to Missouri a couple of folks were telling me how big the Lake of the Ozarks was and I inadvisedly and inadvertently blurted out, "But you can see the other side!"

Tom, based on extensive study online, I decided that a Fieldmaster was my "dream SAK", even though I've never actually used one. Still waiting for a pre-owned one to show up at the local gun&knife shows where I usually pick up non-Alox SAKs.
If you were able to fish yours back out of the Potomac, you had a good day of fishing IMHO.

Good story, Mike! Lots of folks don't realize that when denizens of the Great Lakes State call those 5 lakes "great", we're being kinda humble.

Tom, based on extensive study online, I decided that a Fieldmaster was my "dream SAK"

I too researched extensively on line before deciding that the of all the Victorinox offerings, the Fieldmaster had the best set of tools for my uses. I could nitpick, but my only real gripe is the can opener. I wish they used the claw-shaped ones, like on this Mikov:

I found the screwdriver ended one more effective when I realized you don't have to stop the screwdriver from entering the cut in the can.
