Some Sparkling Traditional Treasure!

It is possible that 8's, 3's (maybe 0's - anything with curves on both top and bottom) are cut differently to fit on the punches. So, they are the same size punch (same type size), but because of the shape, must be slightly smaller.

I'll keep this in mind as I now examine other blade stamps more closely; thanks.

Ok, so I'm late to the show..... Can anyone let me know where to get one of these or are they gone?

Now, to recover from an unintentional Stamp Veer.

Where were we?!

Ah yes, amidst elegant lines, history come to life:

An apple a day takes the blade etch away...

... or at least starts to give it a run for its money.

(I'm sorry to see this particular etch go, but I do enjoy a well-patina-ed blade. Behold, the power of Fruit.)

What, you've left the stamp discussion already? But I just took this crappy pic to help :(:) If each number in the stamp is different, maybe they worn the 8's out and had to get new ones which were sharper/finer. But the 4's for example weren't used as much since 2011 so its the same one but with stamping the blades, maybe they were flattend out a bit/duller so it looks thicker? Same with the 2? Both knives in pics are bone #48 jacks :)

:D

-- Nice comparison, thanks. I still think the 2 and 1 are of a just plain larger 'font' on these newest Jacks....

A small box from Point Roberts has arrived in the mail!

Unfortunately, I'm at work, with another 10 hours to go on this shift. I'm going to be watching the clock all day!

Fantastic knives Charlie!!!

I really doubt that a stamp could be type settable, there's too much pressure on it to have removable components involved. It's likely just a matter of the depth and thickness that the numbers were cut which affects the look. Just a couple thousandths difference (either in the stamp numbers or blade thickness) would probably be noticeable. Does it really matter?

Okay Sarah, I'm with you on this one  I could even goes as far as saying the "3" looks larger as well :o

Points taken, thanks.

Nope, but for some of us these details/idiosyncracies are kinda fun. :)

I am enjoying the laying on of honest to goodness patina here, Sarah!
And folks, nary a sign of simmering vinegar!!
I might have to heat some if I want to catch up . . . . . . .:D

Ordered! Can't wait to get this one in my pocket, about the perfect configuration for my likes and uses.

Took my Diamond Jack out of the tube last night. Great knife. Comfortable in the hand. The clip blade and its nail nick are perfect. Never knew I needed this one, but it feels do good in the hand. Would love to have a single blade version!

Great job, Charlie!!!

Pics and field reports to follow.

That Old Tan has Fall colors in it for sure. I have been so busy shipping them I haven't had time to "adopt" one for my own!
That is about to change!!

i like that northfield but i can't help but wonder how you're going to gather those leaves. do you mulch, use the blower, or just leave the leaves alone?:p

Think "traditional":

[Admittedly more of a challenge now that most of my previously-robust work force is away at college.]

Sarah, glad to see you're still rockin' it "old school" with that rake. I do the same. Never, ever, will I needlessly burn gasoline or waste electricity to blow leaves around, guess it's just how I was raised.
And, your Diamond Jack looks right at home in that sea of autumn leaves.
