Some Thoughts on Youtuber Nick Shabazz

This may not be the place to ask the following question: Do you prefer the Kershaw Link in m390 or the Dividend in m390? I don’t want to be the guy at the party asking the doctor for free medical advice, but I’ve read all the comments in both YouTube reviews and couldn’t find any answer. The dividend seems to be the fan favorite, but what does Nick think? If inappropriate, please disregard and apologies in advance.

For me, I prefer the Dividend by a big margin, but that's probably my own bias towards compact and wharnie. Both are excellent though.

My Link in m390 just came in the mail today, and you were right, it’s awesome! This is the first Kershaw I’ve bought since I came across a two-pack of their Chinese made 3cr13 disasters! The thinner blade stock of the dividend makes it less attractive to me, but I will buy some dividends in m390 for family as I can see it’s preferred by both the fans and the expert. Thanks for responding!
Best,
Dave

Nick Shabazz is Da Bomb! I love his fair and balanced reviews . . . As a bonus I like to pipe his voice into my pillow speaker as his voice and accent are so melodic they lull me to sleep hahahaha . . . And dats a beautiful thing :D

I saw a ZT0562 for sale here last week as I was looking to add my first ZT. But I passed by it. Then I checked with Nick's review of it and went back to the posting and grabbed it. He fairly pointed out it's few weakness's and I saw I could live with those. His conclusion . . . "Its a Gem". It arrived yesterday. Its a tank and the good, the bad and the ugly points were exactly as he described. If this blade didn't deploy if I ever needed it quickly I could use it's 5oz as brass knuckles, thats how solid this titanium and CF flipper's build is. I can see now why ZT is so popular here. Compared to my Para 2, the Para feels like a toy . . . just my opinion, holding one in each hand. I bought the ZT to replace the Para, but I now like them both as they are two different knives.

I knew someone was gonna say this. He has enough videos that it should be easy to find an eight hour playlist!

Not to gush but..... I am a fan . I find him very accessible. His opinions are presented as just that, his opinion. He never claims it to be otherwise and this strikes me as genuine. He has a certain aesthetic that he favors for sure but he has no problem showing appreciation for craftsmanship outside his personal tastes. He is (in MY opinion) the quintessential emissary for the hobby. His presentation is welcoming and and quite frankly friendly. He emphasis on the details of the tool have deepened my appreciation of knives and better informed me as to as to how to navigate the knife world. His disassembly videos, while not engineering master processes, have provided me with another way to interact with these objects that so enthrall me. I believe this is precisely his intention. It is beyond me that everyone is not immediately attracted to the beauty of these objects, but alas I know this is not the case. Were I to try to explain to someone why they so fascinate me, to explain the depths and levels of appreciation possible...I would have them watch Nick. Nick if you read this know you have helped in my evolution within the hobby and made it much more enjoyable than it would have been. That is a beautiful thing.

I have several hobbies, all of which involve spending stupid money on things I could truly live without. There are YouTubers for each of my hobbies that I’ve come to trust with respect to sorting out “the good, the bad, and the ugly” as it applies to potential purchases. Nick is hands down my favorite. Fair, well-rehearsed, entertaining, with a refreshing level of integrity, and perhaps most importantly, without one tenth the level of annoying narcissism as even the least annoying YouTuber.

In short, I’m a fan, and appreciate his contributions. Thanks Nick!

Hey, thanks for the kind words, from you and B Bravo13 both! And I'm glad that I've got only 9/10s the Narcissism of most other annoying YouTubers :D

I like to watch videos later in the evening and I appreciate that with Nick's videos, I don't have to play with the volume button. Also no jarring loud music blaring and a fairly "clean" delivery is again much appreciated.

When I do find an interesting knife, I like to research it to death and Nick's reviews are a big part, but a part nonetheless. Lots of differing opinions make this hobby somewhat entertaining and enjoyable. So thanks Nick for the time and effort you put into your videos.

RE: The Nick:

The Good- Very good formatting on his videos (lighting, presentation, video quality, etc.)
Gotta love his voice:)
He's thorough, and hits all the "need to know" items when doing his reviews

The Bad- Like all you tubers, needs to knock a few minutes off his reviews. With experience one learns how to distill their thoughts into a concise presentation, but he's not quite there yet
If you look at his repertoire, he reviews a heck of a lot more than just knives. Wish he would just focus on knives, which he does very well
Unlike other you tube reviews, he doesn't field test the knives. You get a good picture of the mechanics, but not how well they actually perform. Nonetheless, what he does do is invaluable

The Ugly- Nothing much I can add here, since he won't show his face:cool:. His hands, however, are awesome (except when the eczema rears its head!)

I feel that Nick Shabazz makes his videos quite entertaining- in his own quirky way. He does not take himself too
seriously, but he clearly takes his videos seriously enough that he puts in the effort to produce a quality video each
and every time. As someone else noted, his videos are well rehearsed. If I watch a video where someone is reviewing
a knife (or any product) and it is clear that they are just winging it on the fly, I will most likely either lose interest or
get irritated and find something else to watch. Nick has all of his facts, figures, opinions, and other talking points most
likely written on a white wall or some other way that are easily referenced. He finds ways to work in clever humor and
light sarcasm into his reviews in a way that I find quite entertaining.

Even though Nick has grown significantly, none of this has gone to his head like some other knife reviewers. He is not
self absorbed or conceited. He doesn't refer to $700 knives as: "Everybody's got a few of these laying around." nor
does he 'just happen to have' a half dozen knives laying about for size comparison that all cost $2000. He has a format
that he has developed that works for him; and it happens to make sense to a lot of people.

Ok..... So here's I see the Nick Shabazz. He's an everyday guy who is funny, has his own blend of charms, and is an
all around decent guy. He reviews knives of all different types, all different sizes, and all different prices on YouTube, and
to be completely honest with you all- I think it's friggin' brilliant. Was he an Honor Roll type in High School?? Probably not
but that doesn't mean that he's the murdery type of fellow either. I might even let the Nick take my little sister out on a
date or two; but the jury's still out on marriage. All in all, and all things considered..... I think he's a friggin' Gem!

Expidia1: Looks like you have him pegged pretty good. If you have not already viewed his you tube with his fiance, you should. It gives you a little more insight into his personality with the banter back and forth between them:

I was surprised at seeing his own personal collection as I thought it would be mostly higher end stuff, but it looked to me as a mishmosh of run of the mill stuff that your average collector would pick up . . . Ontario Rat one and Ontario Rat two . . . haha

I heard he looks like "Brad Pitt" or then again, maybe it was "Kramer" I forgot which one :D
