Some time out with the Choppers

Curse you and your damn photos. Now I'm thinking a GSO-10 would round out my collection nicely. And I miss Idaho. You may not have been in Idaho but it looks like the foothills.

Fun times...

Nice write up HK.

Didn't let that Ratweiler in on the fun?! I got to try one in a pass around and was impressed with it's chopping ability. Just a step or two behind my Battle Rat which is a larger blade.

Thanks for posting!

Hi bud! I couldn't get a decent workout on all the steel I brought that day. I would have really enjoyed having a Battle Rat or 911 in that rotation, though. It would have been a perfect side by side opportunity to put that res-c to use.

Yesterday I had planned to get out with the Rat Matiff, GSO 10, and both thick and thin Ratweiler, but we got poured on here. Hopefully I can get some time on the thick RW and the Fiddleback soon. I've had the LE for awhile now and really like it

Thanks a lot HK. Now I NEED to order a GSO 10. When my wife asks me why I'm blaming you!

Seriously, great write-up. I was on the fence about getting a GSO 10, and now I know for sure.

Thank you.

You can totally blame me Junkyard. I already threw you and hamhock under the bus for another 4.7. :D However, if you let it out of your sight and hamhock gets ahold of the 10, I cannot be liable for the consequences

Hk, could you get a side by side picture of the ff camp knife next to the new spec 5.1 to show handles?

HK, how do you feel about the swell at the end of the FF handle? If there was a lanyard hole, would you use one?

Great pics, thanks. I can't wait for the new 6. Isn't it crazy how the hight of the camp knife makes it slice so well.

I like the flare. You wouldn't be back against the flare most of the time in normal use as it is a long handle. But the camp knife is big enough to do some chopping, and the knife feels really secure when you drop back against the flare for that, also it adds some extra leverage. I have only made a few swings with it like that, I want to make that clear, but I've swung a few other blades and I like this one.

I had to pull it back out of the sheath and do a little thinking to see if I might like a lanyard on the Fiddleback. As you know, there is no lanyard hole, hidden or otherwise, on the camp knife. I think that was the right call. I don't believe the handle design is conducive to lanyard use, at least for me. The way that the heel of my hand drops off the butt, I believe a lanyard would either pinch or drive my hand forward away from the natural fit produced by the flare. Unless I find something I don't like with some extended use, this one will be a keeper for me. Hope that helps.

Great information! I read some complaints about the handle from a passaround on the ESEE forum and they brought up points I never thought of. I'm glad you've had a good experience! What a great design!

No problem bud. Yes, and snaps cuts for the really light vegetation, it just shears them clean.

Other than just drooling over the design, I never really followed the reviews. From comparison shots, i was worried the large handle would be too much, but I really like it in use. I can't really point out anything I would change about it. Would you mind PMing me a link to that thread, or give me a rundown of the critiques?

No more talking about that knife now. Thanks

It makes me sad

If I ever move it I will message you first man, and it will be for exactly the deal we made before. I try to be diligent about that kind of thing. I'm sorry you're missing it, need those GSO 6's to get down the line!!

I've really developed a thing about tall blades and long handles, seriously! The camp knife has it and I love it. There's another company I might put a pic of in the "other knife" thread.

PM comin' atcha!
