I got rid of mine. I didn't like how the handle felt. The bump on the lower belly of the grip hit my pinky finger when I would grab the knife. Same thing happens on the 950 for me as well. So it was either learn to adjust my instinctive grip, or move to a blade that fits me better. With so many options out there, it was an easy choice for me.
Don't buy the Contego. Spend the money on your mother-in-law instead.![]()
Hmm...talking you out of a knife you really want...here's my attempt.
First, you already have a knife in m390, so you should save money to diversify your collection.
Second, in my humble opinion, the M4 contego is the definitive version of the knife.
The KW version costs more and switches the m390 for m4.
Edge retention between the two should be similar, and, with the Cerakote on the M4, so will the corrosion resistance.
Even though I personally adore m390, and it is fairly tough for a stainless, it will still be downgrade from the M4 in terms of toughness.
Let's face it, the Contego may be decent slicer, but it's true calling is to be a big burly "tactical knife", where the M4 should serve it better.
The KW version also smooths out the scales, which you may not like. You can always round the scales yourself if you buy the original.
Finally, in my opinion, there are better limited production knives to be chasing right now.
The 940-1 is a thing, and some are calling it the definitive version of the 940.
The 710-1401 is an upgrade in every way, stitching the plastic spacers for handsome blue standoffs, and contouring the scales, AND going from D2 to m390.
Spyderco has the Yojimbo 2 in s90v and CF, and the Headquarters of Blades happens to have a blue and silver twill Blur.
In short, save your money, and if nothing else, you can snag an original on the exchange and end up with a better knife (IMHO).
There, did that help?![]()
