Somebody talk me out of this

I have to admit I find the crkt redemption to be quite attractive. It costs a little over $200. From what I understand they are made by hogue. So I am conflicted, why would hogue make a knife and give it to crkt? I have looked at other hogue models but I keep going back to the redemption. Am I making a mistake? I'm not trying to beat crkt up however in my opinion they make garbage and crap, at least the ones I have owned and looked at and used. I just do not want to get burnt so all of your opinions and advice will be cheerfully appreciated. Thank you again

My speculation: Hogue did not give CRKT anything, they were commissioned to make a knife for them and they did. If in your opinion Hogue is a quality maker, then the knife should not be crap just because it was ordered and sold by CRKT. And for not trying to beat up CRKT, you’ve done a good job of it.

Well is it fair to say that their reputation speaks for itself? It doesn't matter though I looked at two major vendors online and it is not available at this time, I pre-ordered it through the knife center. And I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I get a quality knife.

CRKT commissions various models, gives the manufacturer the required specs, sees the final product and if they are happy they sell it.

Thus, if, in your experience, you are not happy with what CRKT specs out then it is possible that you will not like that knife either, as the specifications and what is acceptable were produced by CRKT.

:)

CRKT has been trying to move out of the budget realm more lately. They just manufactured a couple Michael Walker designs in Damasteel that look fantastic. At the same time, they lasered their hideous CRKT block lettering across the blade, so they still have a lot of learning to do.

I don't think you gave us much time to "talk you out of this" at all.

It's a goofy looking knife, and what is up with those shields? And 220 bux?? Hard pass.

Of course, you should come back to this thread with your impressions when you get it. 😁

Joseph,

Follow your instincts. You have doubts. It's good that you look before leaping! I don't have a knife of either brand. However, you have a history with CRKT. Avoid them at all costs. No Pun intended...

What are you going to do with it? Do you live where it's legal?

Or is it another churn and turn? You just wanna hold it. Play with it. Get $50 dollars of fun. Then list the thing in classifieds?

If so. It's a community knife. Go ahead and find a buyer before you buy it. Have your fun and move on to the next.

I say go for it. It's only money. Money converted into a knife.

Hogue makes some very nice knives. Their designs may not be for everyone, but I think their quality is right up there. I also have a couple of CRKTs, and they’re both pretty nice in their unique kind of way. No quality issues with them, in fact no complaints at all. I think this collaboration is going to render a very nice piece. Worst case, if you don’t like it for any reason, KC is very good about returns. But I’ll bet you’re going to like it.

I have to admit I was a little skeptical, but after looking into the Redemption more, I think it is a very nice knife. Can't wait to see some hands on opinions after actual use of the knife.

fwiw, imho it seems a worthy design & quality construction from hogue, (if you're into dagger blades of course)... what this thread needs is a decent pic, so I'll help ; )

CRKT long ago exhausted any good will I may have had for their knives.

Would take something highly convincing to sway me otherwise.

That’s just $0.02 though.

Of course it's legal where I live. I've lost a lot more in my life than 200 dollars. I'm going to leave it alone and wait till they get into stock buy it and roll the dice. Like linguine said knifecenter has a return policy. Something's telling me I have to try this knife out. I could save the $200 and be dead tomorrow. So that doesn't really matter to me.

Since most CRKTs are made in Taiwan and China, I don't think they actually manufacture anything themselves, but instead design and market knives that other factories make for them, similar to Cold Steel. I think CRKT used to be a little better (still not very good) and is trying to claw back some of that former glory now. Either way, Hogue makes excellent knives, and I doubt they would allow CRKT to disclose that they made this knife unless they were happy with the end result. So if there aren't any design flaws and you like this knife, I'd trust it on Hogue's reputation.

That's what I am thinking, Hogue quality. I could easily call them Monday morning and cancel this order. But there's something about it that I like. I may be kicking myself in the back side later on. Let me sleep on this till Monday.

Lol, that's the way I think of it. I'd rather have the knife then paper money.

But we're supposed to be trying to talk you out of it.
