Somebody talk me out of this

Oh yeah you was supposed to be trying to talk me out of it, now my wife is getting suspicious, she's asking me did I buy another knife? Of course I said no! Something tells me this ain't going to turn out so good

I think I might have been talked into trying one!
I love daggers they're just my style I guess. It sure does look enticing. I guess I'm conflicted. And not speaking in abstract, that blade is sexy, but is it worth a hoot? I don't know

Back maybe five, eight, years ago, I was the self-designated CRKT fanboy. They were my first step up from most of the kind of things you find at flea markets, and for a while, I recommended them to people who weren't quite ready to push into +$100 territory.

Over my experience, about one in every seven of their knives just would not hold an edge. It wasn't my lackluster skills either, because some of mine would get actual sharp.

That's one in seven across their entire line, mind you.

Maybe since this thing is made by Hogue and then has CRKT stamped on it, you'll get lucky. Maybe if you can dig down and find out what the target Rc is supposed to be, you can make a clear decision. Without that, I wouldn't gamble that many of my Freedom Bucks.

Meh....You're on the wrong forum if you want someone to "talk you out of" a knife purchase. lol....never owned or used a CRKT product but after "casting an eye" on the one you're asking about. Looks good to me!

Go to the custom knife forums on this board. Fixed blades, folders. I guarantee you will see some nice stuff!

I'm not big on axis locks if that is what I see here. Otherwise it looks like a cool knife.

In their early years, CRKT put out some decent knives...then they emphasized, and committed to, BUDGET. The quality deteriorated and their reputation suffered. They survived because most of the world's knife buyers rank low price over any quality metrics. They're trying to offer better stuff; but they'll probably have to commit to a separate line (and actually making that lineup shine).

I have to admit I find the crkt redemption to be quite attractive. It costs a little over $200. From what I understand they are made by hogue. So I am conflicted, why would hogue make a knife and give it to crkt? I have looked at other hogue models but I keep going back to the redemption. Am I making a mistake? I'm not trying to beat crkt up however in my opinion they make garbage and crap, at least the ones I have owned and looked at and used. I just do not want to get burnt so all of your opinions and advice will be cheerfully appreciated. Thank you again
Joseph

OK: SO DON'T DO IT!

I've been asking myself how come hogue didn't put their name on it and call it good?
Designers and manufacturers do this all the time, and the knife typically ends up wearing the designer’s name. Ochs Worx knives are made by Reate, but they’re all sold as Ochs Worx, right off the top of my head. I have an Oknife that’s made by Kizer, but it’s an Oknife. I’m sure the manufacturers are well compensated for their part.

Look at it this way: If I make 100 business cards for you would you want me to put my name on them?

Of course not. You paid me to make them with your name on them, not mine.

If you like daggers, spend the extra coin for a Les George MK 3. You definitely won’t be disappointed but rather amazed. And also successfully talked out of!

We don’t do that here, we talk people into buying knives.
I just googled it when I read it was a Ken Onion design. It certainly looks elegant, and it’s a crossbar lock in Magnacut made in the USA. $200 is not bad.
That said, I saw a few pictures of some with atrociously bad grinds…like this

I wouldn’t be happy with that. Ask them if they could please check your particular knife before they ship it….
If they are overlooking this kind of thing I wonder what other sketchy problems it could have tho :-/
I would keep a copy of the receipt as well, but hopefully you get a good one. Let us know how you like it when it comes! 👍

Is there supposed to be a "atrociously bad grind" on the knife you posted? I don't see it.

Look at the tip of the knife. The grind line is not even close to the center of the tip. I have a $20 “combat” fixed blade I bought years ago that looks similar.
You’d probably have to buy 100 microtechs to get one like that. Not acceptable for over $200 IMO

Wait a minutes!! Are you hoping for someone in here; to talk you out of buying a knife?!?
