Someone put this up on my property (illegally)...what is it?!

If you have a poacher with night vision equipment,

I believe that the active IR of a game trail camera would show up in the night vision like a lighted billboard.

You should at least contact local le, so that if anything does happen it will be on record. There may even be others locally who have seen this before.

I'm definitely going to call the game commish. I'm going there this weekend and the renter on the property apparently knows two of the officers that patrol the area (knews to me as of 10:30 last night). So we are going to try and meet up with one of them

Get some blank cartridges and fire off a few morning and evening near the tree.

Take a chainsaw to the pieces of the boards that extend past the tree. Leave the centers nailed to the trunk. Then cut the strap into about 40 pieces with a razor knife. I'm sure who ever put it there will get the message.

Oh, that's not sufficient...

Draw a pentagram on the ground in salt, put the wood and strap pieces in the center and sprinkle them with blood.

Apperently a man had signs like these outside his home. A man did break in and hit the homeowner in the head with a tire iron. The home owner got up and shot the intruder dead. The homeowner is serving 30 years because they claimed with these signs he was looking for a fight.

I'm calling BS without any links to actual stories. Someone attacks you IN your home with a tire iron?
No one is going to convict you even if you had signs that said, "Come in and attack me with a tire iron so I can shoot you."

I live in upstate NY. Our neighborhood has pretty much all 3 acre lots. we have caught jackasses within 100 yards of houses with rifles....a bow maybe...if you live there or know the owner..I am talking total strangers with no clue...they usually go back to there car and find the wipers have run away.

This is no mystery at all if you're trying to wrap or unwrap long runs of heavy gauge cable, especially on a dirt road with little room... You don't have a poacher, OP.

I wouldn't think that a utility company would be prone to drive boucoup nails into a tree on private property and leave them there.

Not to sound like an old geezer, but I don't see young people today having the same respect for other people's property that was instilled in us.

And that wire is friggin' heavy. :D

The tree is down the hill a little bit though, it doesn't really make sense for the power company to walk down a hill when there are plenty of trees right along the access road. Why is the strap there, anyways?

Start pissing in the area you think he would be. Do you live in Texas? My lease buds up to the king ranch.. I would suggest the night vision attachment for your scope made for hogs. Hell I will even go and look for the prick!

Remove the boards and place a no tresspassing signs on that tree, most of the time they will get the message.

I work as a lineman for the power company and can say I cannot think of a reason why they would put that thereI would post a sign saying you dont appreciate it and the land is under surveillance. And you will prosecute!

While I'm pretty sure you are using sarcasm and dont actually suggest using these particular signs I feel the need to tell this story that was told to my parents from a police officer instructing their ccw class:

Apperently a man had signs like these outside his home. A man did break in and hit the homeowner in the head with a tire iron. The home owner got up and shot the intruder dead. The homeowner is serving 30 years because they claimed with these signs he was looking for a fight.

Again I'm sure you were making a joke but I think this is good info for people with these signs

I would like to see a source for this like w newslink. Because i am sure there is more to the story . Like maybe this was a man cheating with someones wife GF or something to do wih drugs ect..

There is no way a good standing- law abiding citizen can get attacked in his own home from an unkown intruder and shoot the intruder and then get convicted of manslaughter/murder because of these signs.

You dont think this could happen to a law abiding citizen??
WAKE UP PEOPLE
It shouldnt happen....But it DOES.

Who knows, maybe kinky sex. Whoever nailed those nails knew what they were doing. Everything is evenly spaced. Not a newby or kid nailing nails. the pattern and number of nails would support weight and keep the boards from pulling out. The top boards have a taper on each side so It was tapered for a reason. The bottom support has no taper. The top board would be easier to get a grip on. Maybe the strap went around the tree and the back for extra support. I am making this up of course. But... If I was sneaking around to find out who is in there and I heard "Squeal like a Pig", I would get out of there quick. If a person was using it to clean deer it would have blood on it. A poacher would probably gut quickly on ground and drag or just cut the chunks of meat out and run. Nailing a bunch of nails would be making too much noise and they don't know where they will shoot the deer at. They wouldn't drag the deer to one spot all the time. Maybe it is the start of a tree stand ladder. The first two rungs easily reached from the ground. Then step on a rung, sling strap around tree and back to free hands, lean back and give you room to swing the hammer to hold and nail the next hand hold. Step up to the next one and do the same. They just didn't finish the job.

Ohhhhh, Berzerker, you are evil indeed..... but that good, halloween-party-esque, Punisher of the comic books kind of evil. :D

And chicken feathers..... you forgot the chicken feathers.

I'm sure when you were young "old geezers" were saying the same about you. ;) I for one wouldn't be surprised to see a power company doing something like this. They generally take the position of doing it and asking for forgiveness later.

The advice about contacting the game wardens in the area is probably the best idea IMO.
