Someone recognized my Sebenza

I never had anyone notice any of mine. I do have a co-worker who was talking about knives one day and he was showing me pics of spyderco, benchmades, etc. He then mentioned a folder that he always dreamed of but could not remember the name of it..........the folder.....??? You guessed it, The Sebenza.

I told him I have a few ;)

Yes, but I wasn't surprised. I post some photos of my knives on facebook for some friends in the UK who are unable to own anything with a lock or a blade longer than three inches.

A friend in Sweden recognized the knife immediately. However, this person owns nearly every Bark River produced, and owns several CRK himself.

I think that owning knives - and knives of high value - is similar to some of my other interests. People who are members of that community of enthusiasts will recognize the knife, or the gun, or the razor, or the watch. But outside that community, it's a watch or a knife or a razor.

Awesome stories so far.

I haven't had it happen with a Sebenza but I have with another knife.

I hope to one day have someone recognize the benza when carried because I'm always Interested to know what they carry.

Not yet, I've never seen anyone recognize my Sebbie in my pocket. I have had some recognize a multitool though

I've never seen one before or even heard of Chris Reeve knives before joining this forum. Never even imagined that I would buy a $400 knife let alone a $200 knife. Thanks to blade forums I own a Sebbie 25.

Reminds me of a time I pulled out my Dragonfly in H-1 "yellow FRN handles" someone asked me to see it. They flip it open, then closed, hand it back to me and say "that's cool, what was it like $5 at Big 5." :D I just laughed and said it was a $50 knife.

Can't Blame him, does look like a $5 knife!

Back on topic. I have yet to come across some one who would actually spend more than $100 on a knife! They claim to be knife people but if only they knew.

Well if we really bought them as status symbols, it looks like most of us have failed

Only guy to notice mine was the owner of the only local knife shop. He wants it really bad, but the offer is just shy of offensive.

The only person to recognize mine has been a member of the shooting range I go to. Turns out he was thinking about trying to make a few knives but it never materialized. Regardless, he's the only person I've met that either knew what a Sebenza is, or was able to appreciate the quality. To everyone else its just a "nice knife".

The closest I've had was when a kid in the orphanage I volunteered at screamed 'HE HAS A KNIFEEEE'.

I've never had it happen outside of a gun/knife show or knife shop. In fact, I tend to avoid general conversations about knives because they typically turn to questions about purchase price, and I've long given up trying to explain.

A few days ago the customs clerk recognized the Mnandi I imported and was about to pick up. He saw the invoice and was like "Woah a Chris Reeve Knife" and proceeded to lecture me on how CR is one of the finest cutlery makers. :D

A guy on snapchat did but that is it. I am looking forward to the day someone does though ha. I get asked weekly about my Yeti decal on truck and have convos about that, same with my BGE decal. But I get no questions about my CRK decal. (I only have 4 decals so it is not crowded)

I have had two people recognize my large sebenza. Once while it was clipped in my pocket a cop noticed it at a local gun shop and the second time I was in a company training seminar playing with my 21 and a guy walked over and told me I had good taste in blades and then showed his small carbon inlay sebenza.

I recognized a Mnandi that someone else had clipped to their pocket. That is the closest I can contribute to this thread. :)

I've never had anyone recognize it. I've had a few people ask about it though....
I had a friend showing of his new Remington knife and talking about how it was a great knife for only $30 and he asked what I was carrying. I pulled out my Unum and let him fondle it a bit. He commented that it didn't have a flipper like his Remington and it was heavy. He then asked the inevitable...how much is it?.....He about wrecked the car (he was driving) and called me f-ing crazy...:D He eventually said he understands, he has some pretty pricey duck calls that compare to way a CRK knife cost more than a cheap knife.

Today I was at an IDPA match and I was checking out everyone's pocket clips. "0" and I mean ZERO known makers, ZERO knives over 100$ and 70% were carrying a folder.
I saw what I silly thought it was a beefy titanium framelock and got excited (I though "here we go, something cool"). It was a Benchmade (it was extremely beefy and short. Have never seen one like that but not that I know much about that brand. Have never own one).
I think its "just us here" guys LOL
