Something different for me....

Many of you noticed my lack of presence here over the last 5 days... Here is what I have been up to. I was involved in a 5 day build off on another forum and it finished yesterday AM at about 8 in the AM. My goal was to build something VERY different from my norm. I wanted to build an "ART" knife. This is as close as I have ever come to that idea! I will try and get a WIP thread on this build put together over the next few days.

Thanks for being understanding for my lack of presence. I literally worked for about 20 of the last 24 hours and had to pull and all nighter!!

The Overall length is 19 7/8". The blade length is 12" from the blade tip to the tip of the guard.

The Blade is clay-coated-heat-treated W2 with a mirror polished fuller.

The Guard and Pommel are heat-colored, textured Titanium bolsters over mirror-polished 416 stainless steel, attached with heat-colored screws.

The Handle is stabilized Black Palm.

Here are the pics!!

Thanks for looking and being patient while I was busy in the shop. Now back to our normal programing!

Dude, you look possessed in that last pic. "my precious.......!"

Nice knife but I'm a little confused looking at the area where the guard meets the blade. is it integral with the handle or am I looking at two seperate pieces?

It is not integral. The stainless parts of the guard/pommel are two pieces that are fitted together.

Looks like a chinese sword. Love it.

I tried to get an "Oriental" feel to the piece. :D

Quite a departure indeed, and an awesome result. Very impressive piece. Love the blade shape, fuller and cool hamon in particular.

Does it glow in the presence of orcs?

Nice work!:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Was I correct in my understanding that it is comming UPS?????

Wow!

I hate when I get a bad case of knife envy!

IMO, it would have benefitted from the grind coming straight out of the handle, with no choil/ricasso, maybe a little shorter handle, and definitely no visible fasteners....that just kills the look of grace that the blade conveys, and hurts the "art" aspect of it.

On the other hand, you are absolutely to be commended for the effort, and clearly thinking outside of the box.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Great effort, Tom, with a very nice result.

Thoughtful, and frequently true, Paul....but not always.....or in Japanese Sword Arts.....who knows the sword better, the sword maker, the polisher or the swordsman?

Does this not look like the inspiration for the handle?

I like the blade a lot. The handle looks a bit massive to me, and maybe would have worked better for me if six- or eight-sided, rather than a rectangular cross section throughout.
