Hank's khukri being held by Toni there is a wee thicker than the Blackjack Becker production models, which is quite thin and slicey

the "original" Blackjack Hank model, with the funky grip, where considerable thick, and convexed, more in keeping with the limbu (iirc) style khukri that Hank based his off of. these can be found if you search around long enough. they're quite formidable. HOPEFULLY soon, i can measure one up for specs, but it's obvious in hand, with the Becker model, which one is heavier, thicker, and well, sorry Ethan, more badass :)

imho, Khukris must have more weight forward, usually accomplished with a thicker spine up there (even 1/4 to 3/8 is better than "sheet steel"), unless the design is "leafy" (foxy folly style); having the cutting edge (sweet spot) forward of the handle does seem to provide more power than a straight machete would otherwise have, but in "thin" you might as well go parang. that whole narrow throat thing really emphasizes the weight forward. imho :D

there's also an uncommon Blackjack Reinhardt that is "shorter", but if possible, every so slightly thicker. it's convexed as well. only seen a couple of those.

there's also also a even more uncommon Blackjack Chopper, of which i've only seen a handful, but should be "brought back". basically Siegle's Jungle knife does the trick nicely :) see: http://blackjack.0catch.com/pages/marauder.htm

Wow Bladite.
Thanks for spreading more knowledge on us.

There should be a place where the curious Becker fan can go to research the history of their favorite knives. Maybe even show some specifications and how they have changed in various models through the years.
That would be fantastic.

:D

if only there were such a place...

You guys are delusional. Nobody would do that for lowly Beckerheads.

OK. Cool looking enough.

But what would one DO with such a thing, other than kill things?

The future is bright that much is for sure....

+1 on the RBK revival. I'll take 2 please!

You mean this little guy?

I could use another one.

This is good news! I’ll add my 2 cents (even though nobody asked:D). As for thickness, I like the idea of a thicker khuk, but my 1/8” Cold Steel LTC chops like nobody’s business and makes a really good short machete. It’s light weight, easy to carry and use all day, bull strong, and extremely versatile. That being said, I would like the RBK to be thicker, but not too thick. The CS Gurkha, an absolutely outstanding blade, is 5/16”, but FFG. That allows it to weigh in at about 23 oz., which is IDEAL to me. This is also what the Junglas weighs, which is another highly versatile big blade/heavy machete. Much heavier and it starts to replace an axe. The problem is I rarely need an axe for anything. If this things ends up more than about 25 or so ounces, it won’t be near as useful all-around IMHO. It’ll still be neat, just not as versatile.

I like the original shape, but that’s only going by looks as I’ve never handled one. I also like the idea of using the Becker slabs on the handle (I believe the RBK uses the standard slabs). It looks like a nice grip and should allow use of the available micarta. It should also keep cost down, so I hope they keep that handle.

I think it’s a great idea to reintroduce the RBK. I can’t wait to see the specs for the design. Hopefully the family will like what they see and the project can proceed soon. Thanks for the update. Take care.
