Something to bug Uncle about when he gets back

The count mounts. Warren, must have been karma. I wouldn't intentionally try to get someone's goose. ;)

Jumping up and down, arms waving wildly.:D

Can be interpreted as:
I would be interested.

Besides differences already mentioned, are villagers typically lighter/heavier lesser/same quality craftsmanship as HI?

Pink(scabbard) has been suggested to me. Anybody?!?! :D
Yup, brown is fine with me too.

You know, with different colored scabbards, it would be easier for people, especially women, to accessorize. Of course, you can't beat basic black for the more formal occasions. :D

There you go guys. "Dear, you can wear the one that matches your shoes."

I want one with a purple scabbard. "When I am old I will wear purple with a red hat that doesn't match" :footinmou

Lottsa NDNs do that even when they're young. It's called Regalia and most commonly seen at powwows or other places where ndns gather. :p  :D ;)

But somehow it "Looks Good" on us, maybe it's the complexion.:p :D ;)

They're basically the same as the regular HI stuff, except with no fancy stuff like polish or decorations. They're made by the same folks too.

Yvsa, I look really good in Hawaiian shirts (I think). If you have enough colors in it, you don't have to worry about matching, cuz everything will. ;) They can't make Hawaiian shirt-type scabbards, can they? Maybe the Sarki Shop.

Kismet, good recipes. Ever see the W.C. Fields routine where he goes into a French restaurant and orders duck? They are out of duck so he insults the waiter. The waiter demands satisfaction and tells Fields that he can choose his weapon for a duel. Fields says "Fine. Bring me a very sharp duck."

There same quality just not as shiny as regular HIs. The one we have is like a WWII by Kumar. Just has a "rough" finish on it. With steel mountings it is a great khuk! Don't know about pink though.

Yeah, all the metal on a village model has a "brushed" finish (even the brass), not necessarily all brushed in the same direction, but usually.:)
Wood handles are bare and slightly rough, not even that rouge stuff on them.

Just did a quick tally and it looks like we'd have no problem getting TWO DOZEN takers on the little 12 inch AK villager. Of course, we're going to have to wait until Uncle Bill gets back and gives the project thumbs up/thumbs down (what an image, Uncle Bill as Ceasar), and sets a per unit price for these little critters before we do a finalized sign up list.

Had some good inputs on the little villagers that I would much value y'all's opinion on. First, it's come to my attention that some folks have a preference for horn, even on a villager. It would complicate things only slightly to offer them in your choice of handle material, so I think it would be quite possible. Comments please. Second, Berk brought it to my attention, and I wholeheartedly agree, that it would be very cool to have these done with the old style bolsters, and have the cho closer to the handle like on the older khukuris. A current example of this exists on the Bura New Model, and I got to tell you I really like it. No wasted space, maximized available cutting edge, way cool. You still have the cho there to let your fingers know they're getting too close to the cutting edge, but you don't have this long, unsharpened ricasso that, IMHO, serves no other benefit than to protect the clumsy. Again, your comments would be appreciated.

Regarding the scabbards, I think realistically speaking they'll be made out of whatever leather the sarki has on hand. That's fine with me as long as they don't have a chape, and aren't pink or yellow.

I'd give one of the little guys a try, so please add me to the list.

I like the idea of an unfinished wood handle. Don't have to worry about getting all the rouge off, which seems to be impossible, anyway. Though I wouldn't quibble about horn, either. What I really WOULD like, though, is to have a handle that's a little longer than what usually comes on a 12" knife.

All of Sarge's (distilled) other suggestions are OK with me. Chapeless is excellent. Based on the saex experience, it seems best to let sarki do what he is used to (unless it's pink, though I have a yellow one that doesn't suck QUITE as badly as you would expect).

Be careful when you ask for a longer handle,, Sometimes the translation doesn't come across perfectly. If Kumar or Sher do these the handles should be long enough. Sanu made short handles. Bura too!

"I like the idea of an unfinished wood handle"

Me too buddy, I'm thinking unfinished wood would help keep down production costs/time, and would be simple for the purchaser to customize/finish to suit his/her own tastes. Still, if someone has a strong preference for horn, I'd like to see that option left open to them.

Hoghead's right, from my experience Sher makes probably the best, most comfortable handles of anybody. He must have bigger than average hands.

I just wanted a wood-handled 12" AK. :(

My "Importants"
12"
AK
Wood Handle

My "Not Importants"
sheath color (even red or yellow is fine with me as long as I get the above)

Added bonus features I wouldn't complain about, but it's no big deal:
steel fittings
villager vs regular HI fit&finish
cho migration

The regular handle works for my hands. I don't have any experience with the older design.

Aardvark -- I bet there's enough variation among blades that you could simply ask UB to look out for the largest-handled one for you. When I got my regular 12" AK, it was one of two of Uncle Bill's daily specials (one Amtrak and one "!"). I had my choice of either but asked UB for the smaller-handled one, as there was a difference and my hands are smallish.:)

Uncle always does the best for me out of the available choices. I just wanted to hedge my bets a little.

Mmmmmm, Villagers........... Oh boy, oh boy, imagine what a 12" Ak version is going to be like.:D
