Sometimes a Queen can clean up nicely

Let me tell you, the original Busse smooth coat is made from kryptonite. It is ten times tougher than todays coatings. It was such a pita to remove. I took the handles off and did about 5 applications of Jasco stripper and brass brushed it. Then 320 grit finish and wallah, done.

Congrats Cobalt! :)

Any idea what type of coating it had?

That's beautiful! That sheath looks good too. None of mine have the name stitched onto the belt loop though.

Dang! That's a very nice blade! I notice it has screws in the handle instead of tubes, cool stuff. [emoji106]

You are correct. The upper loop on that one is not original. I could not find the original belt loop so substituted one in until I can find it. The rest of it is original.

Very nive old school blade mate !!!!! I have not dabbled in the older blades, I am afraid to, the newer versions keep me hooking long enough hours on my corner as it is !!!

Survival Sheath Systems... was that the guy from Oregon ?

It is more nostalgia with me as the SHBM time frame is when I got into Busse.

I don't know if you can get this stuff in the US, but it takes the smooth coat right off on every knife I've tried. It softens it enough that a little brushing under hot water with a stiff brush takes it right off. A little bit of scotch brite and they're beautiful, dimply, and shiny.

Ah, no wonder it works so well. That's the good stuff, made with methylene chloride. Didn't know anyone still sold that kind of stripper.

looks like you can buy it here:

Jasco, which is what I used uses the exact same ingredients. It even melts latex gloves. The old smooth coating still took forever to remove.

Here is a video of the stuff I used. Look at how it takes the crappy coating off the Becker BK7. I wish Busse would use those crappy coatings.

oh and it took two cans and 5 hours to get the stuff almost all off.
