Sometimes in the woods

See, now that's what the ultralighters need! No freeze-dried food in baggies -- make your rations carry themselves in!

Goats are fun, but I tried raising some Boers and I swear... those things are born looking for a place to die. I do enjoy Pyrenees, though. Here are my two girls as pups...

Nice! Did they keep the badger markings as adults? All of mine have faded out, although I had one Tinkerbell still had dark markings but not a full Badger.

Here's Pete's uncle or something:p We got him from the same lady as an adult. He's not bonded to the goats or anything and just hangs out and walks with us although he still barks all night like they all do:rolleyes:;)

He's supposed to be like 11 years old. Limps some but gets around decent.

Keea's basically all faded away. Up close you can still see light markings. But, Kasha still has really pronounced marks. I'll take a picture of her as she is now, and post it up.

On a side note, the night barking drives my wife absolutely nuts... I actually kind of like it. They are gentle giants, but they sure do put on a mean show. Keeps the ne'er-do-well's at bay.

11 year old Great Pyranees? That's incredible. What is the average lifespan for these beautiful dogs? I always wanted a large breed, but afraid that their lifespan would be too short.

That's how they keep predators away more than attacking them. Marking and barking. Bred into them.

I've had 5 of them and Pete is the best one I have owned. But I got him really early and raised him around no other dogs.

When he was a puppy we kept him in the barn in an 8X16 cage so he could see the does but they wouldn't kill him. Then when we would get home from work we would take him out of his cage, and put him in that small pen in the pics with the baby goats, so he could be with somebody his size but we could intervene if he got too rough.

After I let him loose in the barn he did fine, never breaks out of the fence, good natured. Up to about a year, he still wanted to play with the goats, I had to make sure he didn't annoy my really old doe but now they sleep together.

When I got Lucy, my first pyr, all the does beat up on her so I penned her with the only kid I had Easter. They had sort of a bond. Well Lucy died and Easter is like 13(old for a goat) and when Pete was a pup she would sleep up against the cage. I guess he reminds her of Lucy.

WoodenChicken,

My other 3 have checked out by 8 years. The bad thing about most all big dogs is they don't live long. "only the good die young";)

great looking dog there HD... he looks like a small bear...

love the goats too... the misses and i have been wanting a few for a long time, but have no romm for them at the moment..

i gotta get out to your place one of the days man..:o
