  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Sometimes its worth it..

My tenacious broke in the exact same spot. I just laughed and threw it away. But if it was my millie I'd be sad for a second.

Snapping a Blade always sucks.

and not to rehash a Beaten horse.
BUT.

One of the reasons I like BM and KAI.
Replace the blade charge.

Compared to SOL..
Spend a couple C-notes.
Still hope Spyderco will offer that service someday

Where'd you see that?
This is what I found:

Blade or edge- Broken tip from prying or dropping, chipped edge or broken serrations, destroyed edge due to improper sharpening, rust due to neglect or other blade issues. Spyderco does not replace blades. Depending on the blade’s condition we may be able to re-profile or re-serrate.
Resended! My bad a misread. You're screwed. Lol

I love the idea to grind it down like that! It looks (will look) very comfortable in hand. When removing the rear of the handle, will the lock bar be ok? That is a lot of material to remove.

Yep the lock will not be affected. The steel for the lock ends at the last grip screw so that's where I'm going to chop it

I'm doing the rough cut tonight

I don't want to start anything with this, but the fact that BM and KAI do this makes me feel like they sell their knives expecting them to break. I wouldn't want to choose my knives based whether the manufacturer can fix me abusing it.

Knife insurance. You pay for it. It's cheaper to just be the guy who doesn't break his knives than to collectively share the cost of broken blades. There is no free lunch so I'm just looking for the cheapest meal. No offense intended to 10fingers. Sometimes sh** just happens. :o

Maybe cut the handle off right after the last screw?

Yep that's the plan. So it will actually be a little longer then the tape mockup.

I haven't cut it yet because I realized I wanted the full handle when I cut and shape the blade. Hopefully this weekend it all get done.

Nope, they just know people are retards and will use a knife to pry! (Myself included). And, it's for those people that use the hell out of their knife, resulting in major wear. Instead of buying a new knife, you can pay $35 for a new blade. :p

This is mostly what i was gonna say to. Had a big statement but decided not to go there. It made me LOL when Maxfisher said "I don't want to start anything with this, but the fact that BM and KAI do this makes me feel like they sell their knives expecting them to break." Really? Don't expect to start anything with that.:p I could say the same about Spyderco. They don't have blade warrenties cause they expect them to break and the OP's picture just might contribute to that. Got nothing against Spyderco really like the Para 2 but what happened to the OP is what i imagine happening to me cause i am not kind to my knives sometimes and i know that Benchmade will save me some/alot of $ just by replacing the blade. That's why a have alot of Benchmades and no Spyderco at the moment. If they had a blade warrenty i'd still have a Para 2 or two of them.

My brother uses his titanium Military as an icepick, and knocked 1/8" of tip off it from hitting a steel pipe.
I just put a new point on it...wouldn't even know it. :)
It has been used to cut stuff till the edge was pretty much non-existent, resharpened, and gone through that cycle again and again.

The ONLY thing it won't hold up to is prying.
Anything else it will handle...even stabbing poor defenseless ice. ;)

I appreciate that there are companies that offer a warranty on their blades or offer blade replacement plans. I was only pointing to the fact that the cost of that program ends up being reflected in the price of the knife. Depending on how you use your knife and how prone you are to breaking blades, it might or might not be beneficial to pay a little extra for that level of warranty. As kerosene said, I use the hell out of my knives, but I somehow never manage to break the blades on them so I'm glad there are some companies that don't have the cost of this coverage factored into their prices. I can certainly see it from both perspectives. I'm glad that both options exist so that we can individually choose which works for us. I don't see one as inherently better than the other. It's nice to have options. Chocolate and vanilla.

Exactly. Well said my aquatic friend! 😜

I use my blades.. Somtimes hard.
This was the result of cutting Kevlar.

BM replaced the worn blade and went over it...Took a month and a half
But it was brand spankin new

Come on Spyderco.

I would buy more of your brand if you offered this service.

Went ahead and chopped the handle.. Still have to remove some material off the bottom rear to keep the military look but I'm done for tonight
