Did you ever get a Perfect blade and then get Kydex scratches on it??!!

There's no such thing as a perfect knife and there's no such thing, IIRC, as kydex scratches. Unless we're talking scratches on the knife coating.

But yes, that would suck.

Unfortunately, you can't avoid it. That's the nature of the beast. Even if the sheath is made in a way not to touch the blade (handle retention), sooner or later, small stuff (mud/sand/etc) will get in there and scratch any finish.

This is weird. The kydex scratches happened twice and the sheaths were New??
Oh well. I know how to buff them out. Scratches on a non-user is like a key scratch on a car.

Never put a satin blade in a kydex sheath if you want to keep the blade pristine.

I don't care how new the sheath is.

A few makers produce a sheath that grabs little, if any, of the blade.

But you're still going to get scratches. Just the nature of the beast.

Depending on the maker, the same can go for coated blades.

Even leather will sometimes leave minute "scratches" on a satin blade.

Time to use that knife...

Sometimes the dust comes from the shop; if the inside of the sheath was not thoroughly washed or blown OR if holes were drilled after the rivets were set, you might have stuff in there.

What's a non-user?

WOT  the heck does that mean???:confused:
sorry, double pump.

I've got several custom knife/sheath combos that doesn't have any kydex marks, though they have been inserted 100's of times. The key is getting a good handle retiontion ONLY fit with ample room around blade. Even then you will get some marks if junk gets in sheath, and will get marks from use anyway.

Now INFI, thats a differant storey. The stuff is great, but will scratch if you stare at it hard.

That's why I've sworn off Kydex as a sheath material.
The worst example I've had was when I got my Spyderco Bill Moran, the sheath would hold grit right where the edge sits. The first time it rolled a quarter inch section of edge I thought "oh, it's just a fluke". Then after sharpening the knife all pretty again, well, just guess.
I immediately got my Dremel and dismantled the sheath for scrap. My Forester has never touched its factory sheath.
The only factory sheath that has impressed me is the one supplied with the Becker 9. The plastic tube has no folds in it so there's nowhere for dirt to get trapped. Some might think it just cheap, but for use in a dirty environment I wouldn't have it any other way.

Oh yea, done that one. Kydex is both a joy and a curse.

But here's my usual methodology:
1) Get a new blade
2) Cut myself playing with it trying to see if it's "really" sharp
3) Ding up the handle the first time I use it
4) Make a lame attempt at putting a "better" edge on it and scratch it all up

I knew there was a reason I don't own a Kydex sheath. (But to be honest, I've even had leather sheaths scratch knives.)
