Son Of A...

My buy brown turned my ghetto satin busse into a scratch magnet.

I don't really care because it's a user.

David's sheaths are blade and handle retention. They will scratch, but are very, very compact and well made.

Thanks for the input you wankers. ;)
Dig this, Oku's Kydex has Not scratched!!??

Oku's are handle retention only and won't scratch as near as bad as one with any blade retention, or blade touch.

And if you send the knife in for custom fit the sheath won't scratch most steels at all. A hard media could get in your sheath if you don't keep it clean and cause a scratck. But the kydex shouldn't scratch the blade on a proper fitted handle only retention sheath.

Even on a handle retention you must send knife in, or hope to get lucky on the fit.

To name just a few that have Handle Retention Only fit, and have never scratched my knife(even after 100's of insersations)... Bob Dozier(best fit), Oku(heavy duty), David Moiser.

Okuden was the handle-retention maker I was thinking about. I have a Lean Mean sheath of his that is truly top notch.

Still, that blade is coated. I think even an Oku sheath would scratch up a satin blade unless you took insane care in placing and removing the knife in/from the sheath. It would be sort of like playing that old board game, Operation.

My Bushcrafter sheath from Dan Koster also seems to be a good handle-retention model, though I've still gotten some small marks just from sheathing and drawing the knife.

WTF is kydex anyway? I avoid it like the plague... ;)

Kind regards,

Jos

Your are correct, Guyon. Sooner or later, Kydex will scratch the blade. I think I'll switch to Naugahide! :p

Not necescerally. Alot depends on how much room is left around blade, is inside sheath clean, and steel type. INFI will scratch very easy compared to most others. Have no idea why, just know its such a great steel that it doesn't bother me.

I've never had a kydex mark from a Dozier, Sean O'Hare, or David Mosier for instance.
I've carried my Sean O'Hare River knife in ATS34 with hand rubbed finish on my EDC Maxpidition pouch everyday for over two years(one I had on at Blade last two years). Its had to have been inserted way over 1000 times and there's not one mark from the kydex, and I just slam it in sheath. Only has marks I put on it from use, none from sheath.

Oh yea, done that one. Kydex is both a joy and a curse.

But here's my usual methodology:
1) Get a new blade
2) Cut myself playing with it trying to see if it's "really" sharp
3) Ding up the handle the first time I use it
4) Make a lame attempt at putting a "better" edge on it and scratch it all up

HAHAHA, that's the usual series of events for me.

You can't do that. Innocent naugas are harmed in the making of naugahide products.

Save the naugas!!!
