Same as the Movie Quote thread, same rules, i.e.

1. First, answer the question and post your Question and if your answer is
wrong, the initial poster 'should' come back and say so
2. After 1 day of no response, the poster could give a hint
3. After 2 days of no response/guess, the thread is open for a new question

I'll start -

Q. You were caught on the crossfire of childhood and stardom,
blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter,
come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!

wish you were here:
Pink floyd

Mine:
"here's to Daddy Claxton, may his name forever be, and always be remembered in the courts of Tennessee"

"shine on you crazy diamond"
ON wish you were here
by pink floyd. Carry on.

"You could almost hear those praire winds blowin'"

First Hint:"Those grown up would tell us you boys keep your distance, that old man's just telling you lies"

The hint worked. Garth Brooks: 'Cowboy Bill'

Oldie: "And a crushing blow from a huge right hand sent a Louisiana fella to the promised land..."

Oldie: "And a crushing blow from a huge right hand sent a Louisiana fella to the promised land..."

A: "Oh Well" - Peter Greene and the REAL Fleetwood Mac off their 1970 album, "Then Play On"!!!

Q: "I am a sinner who just loves to sin
I am a fighter who just loves to win
I am the truth about this crummy hole
There's nothing here that can't be bought or sold"

Both Tennessee Ernie Ford and Johnny Cash re-recorded "Big Bad John" but Jimmy Dean is credited with writing words, music, and taking it to Number 1.

Wikipedia: Jimmy Dean said:
He became best known for his 1961 song "Big Bad John" that went to No.1 on the Billboard charts. The song won Dean the 1962 Grammy Award for Best Country & Western Recording.

Tennessee Ernie is known more for "16 Tons" which he took to Number 1 in 1957 off the B-side of "You Don't Have to Be a Baby to Cry" (Remember that little ditty?) Tennessee however "16 Tons", written in 1947 by CW singer Merle Travis, and made it the hit that became Tennessee's signature tune.

Answer: Mr. Blackwell - KISS

Q: What have you achieved now you're old
Did you fulfill ambition, do as you were told
Or are you still doing the same this year
Should I give sorrow, or turn 'round and sneer

WOW...as a former patch wearing member of the KISS Army, I am ashamed of myself for not getting that one!

Music From The Elder wasn't one of their well known albums. Interesting concept - would have loved to have seen the "movie". Only Cher, to my knowlege, has re-recorded any of the songs from the album. Not sure if I could bring myself to listen to her version of "A World Without Heroes"

You still have the con, NorthStarXO.

Java: thanks for the clarifications. I have that song on a CD in my car and played it over and over in the last few weeks. I, too, would have sworn earlier that it was TE Ford, but when I searched and found it online, the version *I* wanted was the original Jimmie Dean song. Now I gotta go get '16 Tons'.... ;)

Brilliant descriptive lyrics in a compelling song. A masterpiece deserving of the award he got!

I knew it wasn't obscure. But this gives more of us a chance to play. :D

That's the sad part, I actually liked that album. I'm like you, always wanted to see the movie. But hey they can't all be "KISS meets the phantom of the park"!

A KISS musical would have truly rocked had this come to fruition. This was also their first album without Peter Criss but Eric Carr's drums - especially on "Escape from the Island" - proved worthy enough.

I'm just a KISS Army Retired Ready Reserve enlisted man who likes some of the older obscure songs and trivia. Loved how "Beth" was written in response to Rod Stewart's claim that they couldn't write a sensitive love song. :D

Coop,

Grew up listening to Jimmy Dean, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Nat King Cole, Della Reese, Frank Sinatra, Patsy Cline, Johnny Horton, Hank Williams etc. "16 Tons" is way up their on my list of faves. I owe my soul to company store.....

NorthStarXO,

I know the band and the album (released circa 1974) but forgot the name of the song.....I've abused this thread enough so I'll let others play through. The quote still stands:

NorthStarXO said:

Or are you still doing the same this year

Diamonds and Rust - Joan Baez ... But Judas Priest did the best version ;)

-----
Now try:

"Flying to Salt Lake City, Seats 3A & B"

Roger

Damn it ;)

Should have just said it was Run of the Mill by Judas Priest

What have you achieved now you're old
Did you fulfill ambition, do as you were told
Or are you still doing the same this year
Should I give sorrow, or turn 'round and sneer

I know that the prospects weren't all that good
But they improved, and I'd have thought that you could
Have strived for that something we all have deep inside
Not let it vanish, along with your pride

Now with the aid of your new walking stick
You hobble along through society thick
And look mesmerized by the face of it all
You keep to the gutter in case you fall
