Song Lyric Quote

There ya go. I saw the first one and was going to post that you were wrong when you posted again.

So......what's your lyric?

Not sure but it looks like there is a Deep Purple "Marie Dupree" quote in the first reply......

J

Reckon I need to restart this from the Deep Purple "Marie Dupree" answer:

Q: "There’s flies in the kitchen
I can hear ’em a-buzzin
But I ain’t done nothin
Since I woke up today

How the hell can a person
Go to work in the mornin’
And come home in the evenin’
And have nothin’ to say?"

Any of three artists - cyber green chiclets for the original performer/writer.

Angel from Montgomery

by the one and only John Prine

"I've come to listen for the sound
of the trucks as they roll down
on '95."

original artist

double cybere chicklets if you know who the song is about.

I missed the Deep Purple quote - sorry about that. I knew the John Prine - Angel From Montgomery also performed by Bonnie Raitt. I was holding out song lyrics from Dear Abby by him.

The Hollies quote above threw me because I knew the song but I couldn't for the life of me name who did it.

So the answer is: The Hollies - Boulder to Birmingham

Here's the next set:

"It's cool and breezy
I wish that I could be there
right now
Just passing time."

I have to admit that I didn't know that the Hollies did "Boulder to Birmingham".

(-written by Emmylou Harris in memory of Gram Parsons).

Susan Tedeschi did an excellent blues cover of Angel From Montgomery as well.

Now back to your post-BS musical quote......

Q: "It's cool and breezy
I wish that I could be there
right now
Just passing time."

A: Guess not "Everyone Knows this is Nowhere" by Neil Young formerly of Buffalo Springfield (BS) and CSN&Y. Interesting song writer, strange person, and excellent quote selection, NorthStarXO!

Another oldie:

Q: "I remember a talk about north
Carolina and a strange, strange pond
You see the sides were like glass
In the thick of a forest without a road"

J

 ;)

I know this one but I'll hold out for someone else to play the game.

Also, what are green chiclets and how do you get them? I've been here for years and don't have any.

"I remember a talk about north
Carolina and a strange, strange pond
You see the sides were like glass
In the thick of a forest without a road"

now THAT was the Fleetwood Mac that I knew and loved:

Good find. Thanks for this. What's your next choice of lyrics to keep it going?

Suzanne: The chiclets are no longer given or rec'd. It was a 'reward' system that was abused by a few to the ire of Sparks the owner. He canned the whole idea. Fine with me.

Ahhh, ok - I know another forum that uses them and I don't have any there either. :D

So come on, Shaldag - what's the next quote - this is fun.

this is tough. All of my favorite lyrics come from just a few sources, and if I use one of them it will turn into a deadheadthread..........:D

let's try this one.....

"Far between sundown's finish and midnight's broken toll
We ducked inside the doorway, thunder crashing"

A: Sounds like Dylan's "Chimes of Freedom". I remember the Byrds had the more popular version. Don't be shy with The Dead, dude!! :D

Hang on a minute or two here.......

Okay.

Q; "Now there's no life left within them, but the memory lingers on
As nations we're divided, but as people we are one"

"Now there's no life left within them, but the memory lingers on
As nations we're divided, but as people we are one"

I think I remember that Pat Benatar sang that. I don't know if she wrote it.

Let's try this one:

And maybe marlon brando
Will be there by the fire
We’ll sit and talk of hollywood
And the good things there for hire

It was written by her husband and lead guitarist Neil Gerardo. The song is called "Too Long a Soldier" off her Wide Awake in Dreamland album. It is an anti-war song that clearly honors the soldiers who have to fight. What stands out is the sublime ending where Benatar works in bits of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "The Star Spangled Banner" into the final chorus and the long musical fade out. Never a hit single but one of her better songs off this disc along with "Suffer the Little Children".

Play resumes with Shaldag's:

"And maybe marlon brando
Will be there by the fire
We’ll sit and talk of hollywood
And the good things there for hire"

"Pocahontas" by Niel Young

I can't believe it
Do my eyes deceive me?
Am I back in your arms?
Away from all harm?

Once more...
