Soooo.... What light accompanies your CRK these days?

I'm in the market for a new light to accompany my now perma-EDC 25 of unbridled ferocity.

I've been looking at a McGizmo Haiku, too shiny and busy, Mac's Tri-EDC, poor runtime and too hard to get a hold of Mac, Download's 9th run pocket rocket, not quite right with that clip and emitter, and now Prometheus looks like it MAY be the winner. Alpha Blue-Label if I can get a custom bead blast to match the Sebenza, or just ready made if not.

In the meantime I picked up a EagleTac D25C Clicky Ti Nichia 219. But it's not quite right either.

So Ideally show me what you have in your pocket, please and thank you!

Wow you have expensive tastes. I can't justify stepping up into the high-end/custom light world, technology is outdated to quickly.

I'm surprised you don't like the D25C Ti, I had an Al clicky with neutral XM-L2 and loved it, I sold it when I thought I was threw with CR123's but man do I miss that light. I have so many lights I can't justify buying another right now but I really want to get a D25C Ti sometime. I'm also watching for a used D25LC2 to replace my quark QP2L-X burst mode. That's my every single day EDC at the moment, has been for almost a year now (I got mine pre-release from Trevor at foursevens). I also carry one of a few different 1xAA zebralights in my pocket (quark in holster), either my new H52w, an H51c or an SC51w or even my big sc600w MK2 if I need the extended run times on an 18650. That's why I'm wanting to replace the quark; 2x the run times with the D25LC2.

I've also been getting into DIY lights recently. I built myself a pair of direct drive C8's for Xmas. One is a direct to copper mounted neutral white XM-L2 running at 4A for about 1150Lm OTF, the other is a de-domed direct to copper mounted cool white XP-E2 that's limited by wire size (22AWG) to ~2.8A, it's pushing 500Lm OTF but is <120kCd. Of course those arnt EDC carry lights but I do carry one when I take the dogs to the field, the throwier one (the XP-E one) just sits in oir bedroom window for noises outside at night.

One of the C8's

The Quark and H52w

I also have a quark tactical (non burst mode XM-L) on my rifle.

I just notice I use pants for a back drop a lot lol. Also sorry for the lack of CRK in the photos, I don't take as many photo's of my lights as I do my knives so without getting them all out and taking new pic's options are limited.

Normally on me is the LED LENSER® P2 BM

I noticed we wear the same size pants... O.o...

LOL anyways, thank you for the awesome reply. Ok on the D25C, it's not that I do not like it, but against my 25, it's just... Uhhhhh It feels not quite the same level; and it's really shiny. I went with it to replace my Surefire LX2 because it uses the same batteries I have a dozen of, and it has a better emitter. Oh, and it was a chance to get a Nichia 219 to see how I like that (in case it's so awesome I want my new light to have the for sure), at under $100. I could always sell it for close to my cost, but I think I might put it in my first aid kit at home, it's really good CRI, so it would be good in a power outage or medical emergency for proper fluid id etc.

At first I wanted titanium, because my Surefire anodized finish keeps flaking off when I drop it, then the corrosion gets under the anodizing. But now I see that SF uses crappy coatings, so I shouldn't not want aluminum because of bad coatings. Aluminum dissipates heat better, so I want aluminum I think.

About the technology changing, while I agree with you that it is changing, newer is not always better, and if I can get what I want today, (example Cree MCE from Prometheus) being older than the latest XM-L2 but still better according to the maker Jason, if I have what I need, it's not that important to me if something comes out slightly better. The issue I have is getting to try the bins I want to see, like a T6-4C, 3A etc, I don't want to buy a $350 with a tint I don't like. Ugh.

You are right, expensive tastes, but it has to stand beside my 25!

Then the customs you are doing, are you going to get into machining a body etc? Or just modding something existing. I like what you did so far, did you happen to know the bins on any of the XM-L2s?

At the moment it's usually one of these but I am on the look out for something new. I'm not having much luck really as just about everything either has a silly number of settings or is just not sutable for my wants in some way.

Sorry about the crappy, badly lit cell phone picture.....:p

I'm a big 47s fan, and right now I have a stainless steel ReVO with a neutral white emitter on my keychain (82 OTF lumens, current regulated, three levels, "disco" modes, and all in a light that's barely larger than the AAA that powers it), and a Maelstrom MM-X in my car (stupid bright). I also keep a couple of Quark Minis around the house.

All-in-all, great lights for the money.

(My only combined CRK/47s shot.)

Regards,
Adam

Haze, Sapphire?

Looks like Cowboy has the same light I do ATM...

Adam, JLC Reverso, very nice! Mnandi is well suited to it. More of a Breitling guy myself or should I say used to be.

Thanks for the heads up on the lights, I'm going to look into the ones I don't know about.

got my little Zebralight Sc52w with neutral warm emitter. For a AA size light, NOTHING beats this tiny little pocket rocket with 500 lumens on burst mode with li-ion.....The user interface is like no other, and can not put it down. Been in the pocket since I got her like 6 months ago, and now they have a newer version out.
I may one day go into a nicer more expensive light like the Haiku,McGizmo type lights, but for now, this thing rocks. Worth checking it out imho.

Thanks Dave, I see the newer version is the SC52w L2 AA, but can use a 14500. It has a XM-L2 @ 4400K which I think is 4C or 4D bin which tint which I wanted to try. I see they are backordered, I will find one and order it up.

I carry a Maratac copper AAA with a RCR 10440 on my keychain, and a Sunwayman v10r in my work jacket pocket, and my other coat I carry a v10r Ti+, both of these run RCR 16340's. I'm pretty happy with both of the v10r's.

Thanks guys,

Ben, any details on the Mcgizmos?

Thanks Lonny, I kinda feel the v10r are a bit busy for me, kinda like the Haiku. What do you like most about it?

Don't have her yet, but have an order in for an HDS 250 Rotary. Ordered back in Jan, so she should be coming soon.

Justin. The Haiku is the equivalent of the sebenza in the knife world.
Don who makes the Haiku under the McGizmo brand name is a well respected light builder. He is the innovator of the McClicky switch user by many light makers, designer of various reflectors. The Haiku is undeniably the king of EDC and is the quintessential model.

The Haiku has a 3 level switch activated light engine. It is not the brightest but gives a good balance between runtime and lumens. The beam pattern is second to none. It will fulfill 99% of EDC usage.

Don's business model and customer service will keep you going back. When you buy a Haiku from Don, you got a light plus his no nonsense backup. Try him.

Other lights may come and go but the Haiku will always have a place.
