many were waiting for this knife - but really, why?
in what way is this knife better then other 8 inch busse knife?

The res-c handles, they're super comfy and absorb impacts while chopping. I'm personally excited for this knife. And I know a lot of Hogs have been waiting for a very long time for Jerry to release this knife.

The blade shape is different, and the Res-C handle is very comfortable even when chopping. Also, the Basic price SHOULD be considerably less!;)

IMHO, the biggest draw for the Basic models in general is VALUE...

You're gonna get:
1. INFI ( or modified-INFI, perhaps? ) blade stock
2. a great versatile blade grind & shape
3. Respirine-C grips
4. the best guarantee in the biz
5. & a PRICE that is unmatched (even compared with other Busse's) for all the features above

...if there are no more questions......

CLASS DISMISSED!!!

LET'S DRINK

You get a SYKCO style Price-to-Performance ratio, with INFI. What's not to like?

For me it's a couple things...

Weight to performance. This knife has all the function of a FSH without pulling your pants down. That said, it should still have enough blade heft to do some chopping *fingers crossed*

A great example for me of weight to performance is the original swamp rat howling rat. This is a full functioning woods knife that comes in under 6 ounces in its sheath. Absolutely no reason not to be carrying this knife.

Additionally, I just don't need anything with flashy lines. When hiking, people see a resiprene handle sticking out of a sheath and they don't get too excited (as many on this forum). It's understated.

At any blade thickness up to .25”, the Basic 8 should weigh 14 ounces or less, which is lighter than a Skinny ASH1, a TG Light Brigade or a SARGE 7, but with a longer, stronger blade. It will be CONSIDERABLY lighter than any full-tang Busse in its size class. At .275” thickness, it would likely rank weight-wise with the Light Brigade 7” class knives but with a much stronger blade than ANYTHING in its size class short of a CG ASH1 or Sledgehammer, which are shorter and much heavier.

And with the Resiprene-C handle, naturally it will have the best of Busse ergonomics, with insulation from cold, vibration and electrical shock.

Lighter, Stronger, more Ergonomic.

The Basic 8!

Not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but I don't really like res-c that much... All the Hogs that dig it though, more power to 'em!

I'm not a huge fan of it because it is too firmly centered in the middle of my needs... it's too short and thick to be the brush clearing chopper I'd like (would love and INFI version of the 1311... skinny B14? ), and it's too long to be the camp knife I'd want.

Prefer the G10's, and Micarta for looks, but love the Battle Rat and Dogfather LE for all of the reason's listed above...;-)

It's a BASIC thing...

If you have to ask, You wouldn't understand.:D:D:D

PS - Try and find Noss' Destruction test of a Basic 7 (I think...)

I also don't see the draw of the Basic series BUT I'm willing to learn and will likely get one.

What is the best guess in price for these?

Trying to figure out the same thing. A B15 would be SOOO much better

Different knives, different folks though

I agree. Seems like Busse and their customs, to me, are built for their full tang and beautiful micarta/paper/g10 handles. Theres sykco and swamp rat for a cheaper version of a knife. But to each their own, glad you guys got your knife. Seems like theres a demand for it. Im holding out for the next something really special from them!

If you think micarta and G10 are beautiful materials and don't mind carrying the excess weight of a full tang, then I can see how the Basic line wouldn't appeal to you--no worries. To me, any synthetic material is just another piece of plastic, so performance and ergonomics are the only considerations when choosing from available synthetic handle materials. I also expect and require whatever I carry on my belt or in a pack to "earn" its place by providing the greatest performance-to-weight ratio possible. Basic-line handle construction wins both those contests among Busse knives for me just about every time.

Assuming the B8 will be sold on Busse Combat, what knife - if any - will it replace? I'm thinking the ASHBM...;-)

pretty sure it's gonna be a Ganza offering, brother...

somebody back me up on this

I hope they make it a regular offering. I've gotten pretty lucky in the last two ganzaaaaaas and hope my luck doesn't run out with this if its done the same way.

Anyone have any experience with the res-c handles in hot/humid environments? The reason I ask is a lot of plastic stuff gets sticky out here over time. I had to replace the butt pad on my rifle because it literally got sticky over time.
