Sorry, but here's my spine wacks...

I don't understand why you're all so upset about the existence of this thread, but I hear you. I did do a small review on the knife overall if you look back through the posts. I didn't put this thread in knife reviews, but I wouldn't know where else to put it either. I've tried to keep the discussion geared towards the knife and KAI, and most of you have only talked about me, or otherwise unrelated stuff, so I'm also surprised this thread hasn't been closed yet. Why does this not belong in any forum? Because you don't like it? Is it taking up too much space on the internet for you? Look back through any of my posts -- if you have written ANY opinion on the knife or KAI, I did not dismiss it or attack whoever posted it, I respected it. I don't respect people attacking me or other users because they disagree with how I use my knives or the fact that I haven't sent it in for warranty yet (both of which are irrelevant), so lets end that. You think I'm not aware that this is a public forum? It's the internet -- you're free to say what you want. I've just tried to gear this thread towards productive discussion about the knife and the manufacturer, knife talk in general -- apparently an impossible task. The more threads I look at, the more I see this kind of behavior and unfortunately, it comes a lot from people who have been here a while who seem to think their word is law. Try to respect other people's opinions -- even and especially if they don't agree with yours.

LET'S TALK ABOUT KNIVES

Dont be so offended.

Be objective.

Don't make emotionally "loaded" threads.

We want reviews not rants

Ok op, lets talk about the knife.
Did you call KAI yet and explain the problem with your knife?
Did they give you a label so you can ship your knife to them?
Did you get the name of the person at KAI with whom you talked about the problem with your knife?
Did they give you an approximate turnaround time on the repair / replacement of your knife?

Talk about your knife.

Thanks for the video.

Let the haters hate and the deniers deny.

I believe in the spine whack test after a knife closed on me accidently while whacking at vegetation in a garden. I have custom and production knives close just like the one in this thread. Every maker and manufacturer I have ever asked say their product should pass a spine whack test more vigorous than the one done here.

I have fixed each one myself, except for the custom, it failed, fixed itself, failed again, and then fixed itself again..:). Some needed the screws tightened, another needed cleaning and one needed lubrication. I tried oil, but it did not work, CRK grease finally did the trick. Oil did work on one.

LET'S TALK ABOUT KNIVES

What you fail to understand is that you think this thread is about a knife. That ship sailed as you had an identical thread. Now people dont understand the purpose of an identical thread to the one that was shut down. You say your just throwing it out there..........for the second time........ for what purpose? What do you want from everyone? To high five you and say, YEAH MAN THAT THINGS A PIECE OF CRAP....... if so there you go. But make no mistake, it doesnt matter who started this thread. Anyone who opens a second thread about a problematic knife that was previously shut down is going to be questioned. If you dont want to be the subject of the thread then it is your actions and excuses that need to change. Not the forum. All you have done is told people what you DONT want being discussed. What do you actually expect to get out of this thread? Maybe with that information we could have progress. Otherwise this thread looks like a troll food.

I've only had two knives fold from pressure on the spine of a knife. One was a cheap gerber that folded when it got stuck in a cardboard sheet, and the second was a ZT550. That one was TOTALLY my fault though, because I had disassembled it to anodize the ti and didn't put enough pressure back on the lockbar when testing it. Went to check for play, son of a gun folded on my index finger. I think it's a valid thing to consider, but not a sole factor for me

Probably shouldn't put lithium grease in the locking mechanism. ;). Most frame/liner locks have an angle grind to assist in smooth opening. Unfortunately, some are ground more angled than others, which leads to these types of failures. Unfortunate limitation in the design, that can usually be mitigated with costly man hours and fine tuning, which most manufactures are unwilling to do. But that being said, I'm still a lover of a good and pretty liner/frame lock.

Maybe the OP just wants KAI fanboys to recognize that KAI isn't perfect and that they shouldn't try to say their knives are any better than any other quality mass production manufacturer. Maybe the OP just wants to have fair discussions about KAI like what can be had about most manufacturers without being attacked by KAI fanboys. Maybe the problem really isn't KAI as a company. Maybe the problem is how KAI fanboys ruin damn near every discussion concerning KAI with their unfounded praise with their constant attacks against founded criticism. But that SHOULD be in Whine and cheese, but then he'd get attacked for simply posting ANYTHING whatsoever. If he posted in WC that he was giving away 1 million dollars he'd have guys saying f*** that rich boy. Or what, that rich cracker thinks we need his money? Or there'd be about 15 crass, rude, and uncalled for posts bashing him for simply saying he wanted to give 1 million bucks away without anything other than hate for what the guy posted. So he posted in knife reviews because he reviewed a function of a knife and got blasted for that too. So where exactly can he post that the specific knife he got was exactly as bad as other reviews he's seen and then he's subsequently attacked by everyone over a fair review that he took the time to video. People have a problem with blind KAI fans who are crass, rude, argumentative, and hard headed as crap more than they have a problem with KAI itself. Most people recognize that KAI is a quality manufacturer but they have faults just like every other manufacturer. That's not something to defend or attack, it just is and sometimes people just want to talk about it without being attacked incessantly.
