Southbend Lathe

I looked at it today Page, and you'll be very very happy with it. It's in great condition. Just wont fit in the space that i've got on my front porch. Having moved my shop out of my garage so i can put cars in it.

Just after crossing the New York border :D

Home now. Time to figure out how to get it into my basement without getting hurt

(Thanks Bill!)

Page,

I'm sure you will get more use out of it that I did. Good Luck getting it into your shop.

Thanks Again,

Bill

It's in and set up. I'm going to be ordering the serial number card and some parts to freshen it up from South Bend, and I'm going to make some steel wedges to properly level the cabinet, then cut a test bar and true it until hopefully it will hold a half a thousandth end to end (that's what one of the machinists at work said it should be able to do when I described the condition of the ways and the model, he's a longtime SouthBend fan) She really is a sweet machine! (I really love old American iron!)

Thanks again

Please post a pic of it when you have it set up. Unfortunately, out in the NW, we have few of these (southbend) that come available..If I could find one for a decent price, I would buy it! Until then, I must drool over the lathes that others have been able to buy!!

thanks!

Bill

Ok, I have a similar south bend lathe, mines made in 1943 i believe. I'm wondering if anyone would have an idea about where to get a steady rest for it. I use it for basic operations and that is something I have been looking to get for a while

Not sure I can post this...But have you tried Practical machinist? There is a page dedicated to Southbend....
