Yes, this can happen to many. I have seen it recently. You have to pace yourself for the addictions.

I wish you would have told me that  The credit card company thanks you at least ;)

i remember one busy week not so long ago, i purchased several items, and said "i'll take it" to a few more, forgeting about the others....oh man, when all the bills and emails came for payment, i was like "who ordered all this stuff?
one can get overwhelmed when it comes to INFI....

Good on both you guys!

Working things out, instead of a flame war. This is good!;)

It's very easy to become passionate enough to jump the gun on an item we want, and post feelings that would be better left until the dust settles. I learn this daily.:foot:

Perhaps after the deal is successfully completed, someone can change the thread title. I think spaceweaseal would deserve that for doing something very difficult and rare - admitting he was wrong (in public!) and then, stepping up and doing the right thing in the end.

I second that motion.

Hey, if he makes it good, then good on him.

"I'll take it" means "I'll take it."

More than once, I've said "I'll take it" in a quick moment. Even with some regret in after-thought, I've always made good on the deals.

In all instances, I was ultimately glad I got the knife while the getting was good.

Awesome from both of you!

I will be glad to change the thread title with Gravelface's permission.

We all make mistakes, it is how we handle the mistakes that defines much of what we are.

If our consious allows us to walk away from them without making things right we don't grow very much and in my opinion we regress. We grow from owning up to a problem and doing what needs to be done to correct it.

Well done guys!

Man-o-man!

Some time ago I decided to buy a BM 42 from fellow forumite and esteemed gentleman, "Parker" and I posted a (essentially) "I'll take it" response before discovering that the knife was not lost after all. (My son wandered in and said, "You didn't lose that knife, I 'borrowed' it.")

Anyhow, within 10 or 15 minutes I apologized and withdrew my offer. Now, it just so happened that I did so before Parker had a chance to see my post on these forums since I hadn't sent him a concurrent email. Well, long/short, Mr. Parker never blinked at my bladeforums faux pas. He in fact said, "no harm, no foul" and kindly and w/o retort relieved me of any unstated obligation.

Now, I'm not excusing my blunder. If there had been any harm, perceived or real, I would have sent the $ and never thought twice about it because I agree that participation in these forums is, to a significant degree, predicated on the conviction that every member here is only as good as his or her word and, as such, the integrity of each sale is dependent on that fact.

I guess I'm only writing to say thanks to Parker for not ripping me a new one and to say that I have read a number of threads from well respected and long standing members here re: this very issue stating unequivocally that "it's not a done deal until everyone's happy." It seems the only difference in the case in question, as far as I can recall, is that the thread(s) I'm referring to involved a SELLER changing his/her mind with respect to a potential sale. That is, a seller posted a knife or some-such for sale and then in the process of completing the transaction decided against going forward with the proposed sale. From what I can recall, a whole lotta members jumped on the "not a deal until everyone's happy" bandwagon and rode 'er for all she was worth. At the time, I took that to heart and remember posting that I was happy with that being the general consensus a long as it applied equally to both parties.

My question is: is that still the general consensus or no? If a seller decides not to go through with a sale after a prospective buyer says the magic words, "I'll take it," will he/she be subject to the same level of invective scrutiny (implied or otherwise) displayed with respect to this failed transaction?

Understand that I am not privy to other transactions involving this particular individual which may reveal him to be, in fact, less than honorable. However, there seem to be more than one post on GBU related to this arguably "larger" issue.

Thank you, all. (Especially, Parker! You're a class act that I only now fully appreciate)

Russ, no problem - to be honest, I did not even see the post until you had edited it, but you were quick in your retraction - that's what makes this place okay. I've not even looked at this thread since yesterday and did not really have the time to type this out as i was killing two minutes reading the trade forums between tasks.

Weasel is doing right last I saw and that's good - if you commit, follow thru! Without any specific reason, outside of the weekend, like say your kids need shoes or your mortgage check bounced, follow thru. Some of the guys here have already committed based on a buyer's commitment and why hold him up? Or the next guy in the chain?

So this comes towards a close and I'm pleased to see again this forum doing it's own policing without anyone getting canked, and in fact things getting done right. Good show guys, and Russ, seriously, no harm done. Someone got the bali and they were happy about it - all's well!

With the exception of the occasional miscreant, who is typically banned quickly, I love this place.

All right, that's the closest that I will come to a group hug. Move along now. ;)

(FWIW - I've dealt with both Gravelface and Spaceweaseal. I've nothing but good things to say about both. )

I read through all of the post and several links and I can honestly say I learned a few things. It will be interesting to see how this pans out in the end.

I hear ya! I just had one of those weeks  Three knives in the Overganza, and a deal on a Satin Battle Rat :D

I don't think my wife realizes yet what the total is going to be. Shhhhh

I have to mention that i have never seen a disagreement on any forum end up like this -- i hope i would behave as gracefully as eaither of these guys were i in the same situation, and i can have nothing but admiration for them (which i already had from hanging out with them in the Scrapyard forum). Kudos, or whatever, yeah what PM said about the group hug thing ok i'm out...
