SPAMarama!

Borden's filed chapter 11 back in November
Ah, I see. Yeah, I wouldn't pay that much for Spam.

When I had six little ones, I had to buy store brand milk (a couple if gallons every three days or so), but now that most have moved out I'm drinking Borden's again.

Some wavy Spam as promised.
I got the crinkle cutter last week and broke out the Dremel to put a proper edge on it.
Unfortunately the pic I snapped of the beautiful caramelized crinkly goodness on these slabs in my cast iron pan seems to have been rejected by my phone.:(
But zooming in on the sammy will show a little bit of the browned stripey goodness.
I still have the "better" part of half the tin remaining so you all get to endure one more photo of my breakfast when I pair it with a few eggs...I'll get a proper picture in the pan then.
And no, there's no whisky in that mug...yet.;)

You just had to post this. Now I need to get a crinkle cutter for spam.

Well, I just can't help going back here to patch up some loose ends. First of all, my Spam knife is one of these fillet knives, which I find perfect in the kitchen for softer foods like cheese- goes right through cleanly and doesn't stick as badly as some more familiar knives for the kitchen. That said, I just found these two magazine pages that I think any Spamophile might enjoy.View attachment 1269872 View attachment 1269873 View attachment 1269874

It's interesting to see how Spam is stereotyped as the staple for the military during WW2. That may have been true in some theaters, but not all. My Father-in-law served in the Signal Corp in the Pacific, spending a lot of time on New Guinea (Hollandia) and then going to the Philippines in January 1945 (where he stayed in Dagupan near Lingayen after the war, married my mother-in-law, and where my wife was born and raised). He once told me that they had nothing but corned beef. He said that for Thanksgiving 1944 they had the full Thanksgiving dinner with turkey and all the fixings, and it was so good after nothing but corned beef for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the previous 18 months. The army took corned beef with them to the Philippines, and corned beef has been entrenched as a popular dish there ever since.

Well I bought a can of Spam!! Now I need an occasion!!
Youll be pleased to hear then ...that jan 26 is Australia Day...a national public holiday in wjich underage drinking is traditionally celebrated...drape the aussie flag on yourself like a cape so it drags all over the ground....females may wear made in china aussie flag bikinis....everything must be vomited on later....fill yer boots ol mate.
Not Spam. Inferior substitute. Like drinking store brand cola instead of Coca-Cola.
AN INFERIOR SPAM SUBSTI...?? IS THAT EVEN PHYSICALLY POSSIBLE?

Mate I was raised through my school years on chicken loaf and Pecks paste not to be confused with Perkins paste although debatable which had more nutrition and flavour....(Perkins paste is a non toxic edible school glue)....these my signature dish is Spashimi...its very now. :D
