Spammers swarming the forums

They definetly do, an automated solution would make their life way easier though.
Couldn't you throw some kind of pattern recognition/machine-learning algorithm at the manually blocked Posts(maybe tag this chinese Spam seperately) and have that Block posts automatically?
Or, If you want a less sophisticated solution,
just block posts with a certain number of the language symbols they're using.

As Churchill suggested, we don't have to look that far back in history to see what unspeakable things were done "for the greater good". I think C.S. Lewis said it best...

I'm confused, what does any of that have anything to do with this thread? And who are these "PC police" you speak of?

Hmm, well I guess if you're genuinely confused, I have no choice but to explain myself now. I was basically responding to the guy that you told to "stay away from our community." I was referring to him as the PC police...because the PC police are busybodies that view the world through a politically correct (greater good/collective) lens, who like to go after anyone and everyone that does not fall in line with their politically correct orthodoxy. And...if taken to the extreme...as in socialist/communist regimes... bad things happen as a result. It's a bit of a stretch, sure, but there's that proverbial slippery slope everyone keeps talking about. In other words, I have a thing against "PC police", but for good reason.

Anyhoo, hopefully that cleared it up for you. And now you know I'm a nutcase...but not really...I've just read a lot of Orwell, Dostoevsky, Solzhenitsyn, John S. Mill, Locke, a bit of 19th and 20th century history, etc. Hence, my reference to your Churchill quote...

You're reading way, way too much in to this. The "slanderous" post was mine. It's an April Fools thread where I joked that a Cold Steel knife's lock failed and cut my finger off. Some dumbass (stbob) made the absolutely asinine logical leap that all this Asian spam about fake was in retribution for Bladeforums allowing this "slanderous" to exist, and exist for 5 years. He also supposedly emailed the Cold Steel staff about my "slanderous" post. I sincerely hope that some Cold Steel representatives actually looked at the thread, and got a laugh out of it. Because it's pretty funny, if I do say so myself. As of yet, nobody from Cold Steel has contacted me. Not for this, or all the extremely negative things I've said about them in the past (and recently) for the all the deplorable things they have done. Meanwhile, shortly after, the whistleblowing whackjob went fully off the rails with something unrelated and got himself banned, so there's that.

None of this has anything whatsoever to do with all the spam. Another forum I frequent (not so much lately though) also gets tons of spam just like this, at the same time early in the AM (for those of us in the Americas). They get a lot of "love specialist guru" spam, as well as escorts and fake diplomas, like we get here. We'll probably get the "love guru" spam here soon enough.

Moderators don't work 24x7. In fact they don't "work" at all - they are unpaid volunteers. So at some point they'll come by and clean it up.

Until then, you can click the poster's forum name, and choose "Ignore" and their posts and threads will disappear from your view.

Yeah, I saw the post. Classic. Had me for a split second there, up until I saw the date. But I beg to differ on reading into it way too much, clearly it's people like stbob that read into things way too much. That's what political correctness is. And imagine if your own govt. adopted PC culture. It's happening in Europe and Canada. People have been fined and/or thrown in prison for simply saying what is perceived to be mean and unsavory things...even comedians.

This may not be the right thread to discuss such things, but I'm certainly not reading too much into it. If anything I made the mistake of making off the cuff political commentary, haha.

Actually, we do work, but not for BF. We have actual jobs so as to pay the bills. We moderate in our "spare time".

Looks like the spammer night shift has come on duty. 4 new spammer accounts registered in the past 30 minutes and getting right to work.

Thanks for reporting the spammers. Next wave is due at 3AM. Boru13 and Bhyde will get them.
 
Can we have an administrator add more measures to defeat spam. I'd rather deal with these options than getting all the spam in the new posts feed.
 
I cleaned up what I have found.
Here is the deal- Sometimes we get so many reports on the spam, it fills up pages of the back end..which turns out to look like spam itself.
Same spammer can have 30 reports or more from different people which looks like separate threads.
When I get this condition, I will take a look at the most reported thread and go from there..Consolidate all the spam into one thread and then delete the consolidated thread. Some of you may have seen us do this.
What will sometimes happen is that I will consolidate all the reports in the back end..and a few might get through that were reported. It's just information overload at that point. If we miss some, post in the spam post 1x and report it. If you see someone else has posted in the thread as reported..please don't report it. It creates a huge amount of threads in the back end for the same reported post. It can be difficult to wade through all the reports finding nothing but duplicates that have already been reported.
