Gotcha. Thanks for this clarification. Last I read posted on the subject we were asked not to post at all in the spam threads to minimize cleanup.
A big thank you to the mod staff for dealing with this pestilence.
In the old software, that may have been a problem..In this software, if we can catch it early enough, we can mark it as SPAM and all the threads created by that user are deleted regardless of who posts in it. What we don't want to see is the creation of a thread by users about the spam coming in. Services and Support are fine to create threads such as this one...Which is helpful. Creating threads about the spam kindof muddles the regular threads if that makes sense.
Hope that helps..I know that posting in those threads is an extra step..but it helps us to not have pages of reports for the same thread. The old software was better in that a reported post or thread would be automatically merged with any other reports on the same thread. This software doesn't do that..it's a separate thread.
Moderators don't work 24x7. In fact they don't "work" at all - they are unpaid volunteers. So at some point they'll come by and clean it up.
Until then, you can click the poster's forum name, and choose "Ignore" and their posts and threads will disappear from your view.
Sounds good. So new rule is to report them, then tag the thread by posting in it that you've reported them. If we see they have already been reported, pass it by. I will also continue to report the USER rather than every thread, for the ones that hit us with 30 threads.
You can report the user, the problem is,..all we can do from that report is to ban the user or go into their profile and see where they posted the spam to remove it. Like I stated earlier..if we catch it early enough, we can mark a singular thread as SPAM and all of the content they created will be gone with a single button click. Not sure what triggers time for that spam button to disappear, but sometimes it's not there, so we have to ban and then go cleanup the aftermath manually.
Ok - so for those that post like 30 spam threads in a short period - we should just report ONE of the threads, and not the user account. Is that the right approach?
