Yes, it is true that the first move is against imported pocket knives. Then Department of Commerce will forbid interstate movement of all folding knives and that is the end of our industry.

The description of knives in the Customs letter will cover ALL folding knives, slipjoints, lockbacks, etc.

Sending letters to U.S. Customs is useless and in fact stupid. No one who has ever dealt with Customs will waste their time. ONLY your representives in Congress can move Customs where they do not want to go.

AKTI will post a message tomorrow telling everyone how they can really help.

The NRA is on board and will be working with the AKTI to bring this under control.

To keep up to date keep looking at http://akti.org

keep the faith,

A. G.

I copied and pasted KnifeRight's email alert that I was sent. I don't have a problem with AKTI - more ammo we can get in this gunfight, the better.

With your customer base, A.G., you could really make an impact with this if you could get even 1% of them to write.

Spark,

I have over 1,000,000 names but only 60,000 email addresses. Those emails will go out in one or two days. 1% would be 600 letters to each of two Senators and one representative. or 1800 letters total. Let us all pray for better results.

Best part is that they aren't allowing electronic correspondance. So emails won't mean jack.

Whoa, what's going on?!!! I'm just getting back from being away for the weekend and this is all big and disturbing news to me

Any way I could help?

Check the announcement at the top of each forum.

I'm having trouble buying into all the hysteria. Obama let the assault rifle ban stay dead because he wants to concentrate on health care and doesn't want to get caught up in the emotional nonsense of smaller issues that gets floated by all the usual demagogues.

Can anyone link to a non-biased source to confirm this intent to ban all folding knives? Can anyone point to a quote from a single mainstream politician, left or right, who says it is time to ban folding knives? Can anyone point to a single independent news analysis that says passing such a law has more than a rat's chance at a terrier convention?

Ain't non-legislative discretionary decisions like this grand?

Please define: Non-biased source

No politician ever need to see this to have it passed, it is not a LAW, it is a RULING! done all the time

Just more emotional nonsense floated by people who care about knives and our rights

The thought comes to mind that the Department of State must have an opinion, although they may be the source. Doesn't Customs interpreting the switchblade law have the biggest effect in the immediate future on our trading partners. Do we know where "State" stands?

Anyone know how the Chinese and Japanese makers have been reacting? Interesting that Customs is acting when we do not have Ambassadors in either country to take the heat.

Thanks for posting the "proposed" ruling, now to read it.

Members of Congress are the certainly the key.

Well, 67 pages of bureaucratic language is not fun to go through. But all I see are references to spring-assisted knives or gravity knives, not all folding knives, not slip joints, not knives opened by thumb holes or thumb studs.

ANY knife that can be opened one handed, or easily will be deemed a switchblade under the 'gravity' catchall of the new ruling.

Where does it say that? It talks about buttons in the handle activating a spring or a knife that opens simply with gravity, not with the assist of a thumb.

As for non-biased sources: Any credible source without a vested interest in getting people stirred up to promote donations or beef up circulation.

Customs can rule on what is a switchblade legal or illegal for importation, but it will take politicians and judges to actually prevent us from carrying the knives we all carry now.

In Australia, the hysteria after the Port Arthur Massacre led to massive firearms bans.

Since then, knife violence has reached a higher state MEDIA profile.

Nowhere in our laws or customs doc does it state anything about folders except no AO, no flick or gravity.

However, this year apparently customs have been employing a "wrist flick" .

Legally here that does not amount to a Gravity knife, but if you were to fight them(customs) and lose, you would set a precident then It'll make it easier to railroad the next bozo.

I believe every American on this forum, and in the industry, should put pen to paper.

It's a slippery slope your on.

And its all down hill :grumpy:
