Spark, I am afraid you miss the point.

I support Obama, but since this isn't the political arena, I won't go into it. But I think if we make enough noise they'll all care.

But I don't think the major national media outlets are the best place. People still read newspapers and the papers are still pretty influential. Write letters to the editor, if you know someone on the editorial staff of a paper talk to them, get them to write an editorial.

Start something in the papers, if people listen it'll spread from there.

I disagree.

The Newspapers are tanking in this country.

Letters to the Bosses/Congressman and women who write the checks will have more impact.
After all, they run the place.:D

And I won't go into this any further, as why Newspapers are Tanking, will I Gus? ;) :) :D:D:D LOL

Does anyone in this forum have access to anyone on FOX News? Drudge, Limbaugh, etc Folks who can spread the word nationally

I think everyone should send a copy of thier letters to every media outlet they can, especially ones that will actually give it attention..

This could be a back door death knell to our knife rights and if we do nothing it WILL BE...

What about National Public Radio? They have quite a few listeners and I think it would be easier to get on to than a Newscorp or ABC channel.

No thing's for sure, now that DHS is on board with Customs, it won't be long before TSA adopts this ruling also. Then, if you forget to pack your Skyline in your checked baggage, you can bet not only that they'll take the knife, but that you'll be arrested for carrying an "illegal weapon", and also be placed on the 'no-fly' list.

Matters not that the Skyline is made in USA...nor your Tenacious, nor any other 'gravity/inertia' knife.

"Oh, Brave New World, that has such people in it..."

Surely You jest!...NPR is way left of Hugo Chavez. Any sharp, pointy object is not-PC.

JT, You and I are friends, please take my word that this is really a dangerous place we stand in.

If a department of US Customs puts such a ruling into effect then there is already a law from Congress in the fifties forbidding moving "automatics" between the states.

If congress does not act to stop this, it is not a "slippery slope" it is the end of knives in America, making us the same as England and Australia.

Mr. Russell, let me say first that I'm honored to have you refer to me as a friend. I respect your many contributions to the knife world very much.

I have re-read this and some other discussions on the topic and the seriousness of it is sinking in. I will contact my representatives and try to get on the local radio talk shows to help raise awareness. I'm also just about convinced to join KnifeRights or a similar organization.

Thanks to Spark and all the others who have brought this to our attention.

If you want to do something useful go to http://akti.org and sign up for the grassroots program. It cost nothing, all you do is give them your name and email address so they can call on you for this kind of response.

So with all the problems in the u.s. with gm, chrysler, etc, destroying the knife industry, putting out of buisness every knifemaker, dealer, seller & importer,do they realize the magnitude of this insanity? i thought these morons were trying to create jobs ?what about the millions of dollars in all the equipment from every custom & production maker in the u.s.,it sounds like such a huge & devistating loss i cant even think about it....

With these bureaurocrats, ideology trumps reason every time...logical arguments
are to no avail.

I don't see why we should make this a left vs right issue when it really affects everyone in the country. There are actually quite a few people on the left who support guns and knives. Just because it seems unlikely that NPR would be sympathetic does not mean that we should not try.

I am not a US citizen but I do urge my fellow forumites who are,to do whatever you can in response to this sinister development. It is a high-handed, authoritarian piece of intimidation pure and simple.

In other societies, knife ownership has been restricted in a wholly un-necessary and draconian manner in response to the media's disinformation programme. Lurid reporting of horrible crimes and wild exaggerations and downright lies about waves of knife crime-even 'knife inspired' crimes has brought about this situation. In the UK and EU in general, knife crime is more or less the same as it has always been, low.Restricted for the most part to intoxicated or high on drug youths fighting amongst themselves or very rarely, a seriously disturbed person attacking people. It has always existed and the incidence of it is stable.Yet,read a UK newspaper and you'd think you could never leave your house without being disembowelled. Even the word 'carrying a knife' has become synonymous with criminal intent in this Orwellian situation.

The fact is, no society I have ever come across allows its members to take knives into public places and threaten or assault people for no reason. The point being that there are heavy penalties for violent misbehaviour with knives already in place.Rightly so. The hysteria against knives was started by the media, panics the ignorant public and empowers the cynical politician to make new repressive edicts. It is the DNA of the Thought-policeman where nearly every act can be viewed as a crime. This is the kind of scenario unfolding with US Customs, I urge my US friends to protest against this development however you can. if you don't bother, then we could all potentially be branded criminals and even this forum shut down as being a promoter of 'illegal' acts against 'public interest'

I can't believe some forum people don't think that your knives can be taken away or banned from the market. Trust me they have already done this in N.Y.C. The police are told any folder that can be opened one handed or filcked open is a gravity knife. I have already had my Spyderco taken away by a policeman (telling me its gravity knife). If you're taking a subway train and an officer see's a clip in your pocket he can confiscate it. All the rational argueing in th world won't help. So BELIEVE it. It can happen and will if people don't stand up.

No bills have been introduced about guns ...yet. Don't forget the recent dust up though, when the government decided destroy all the used brass. That raised one hell of a firestorm and the government backed down.

It's nibbling around the edges that will kill us.[/QUO
Obama and Holder will undermine the Second Amendment by going after ammo and reloading supplies. There is nothing in the Constitution that
provides for ready access to powder, brass, bullets or primers.

I totally agree! This is serious business and some people better wake up to what is REALLY going on. Do you think Obama doesn't have someone working on infringing on the right to bare arms? Her name is Diane Feinstein. Remember the name as she said in so many words she will be leading the charge on gun control/ban. I would suspect she will have her mitts in the knife dept. as well.

I would think that the right to keep and bear arms also includes the right to make sure they serve their intended purpose, which means ammo and powder. After all, the Revolution started over protecting powder and ammunition.

Saying the 2A doesn't include ammunition is like saying the 1A doesn't include internet speech.

I do not know if it will help but I just sent an email to Sean Hannity and Rush both. It can't hurt and maybe some attention will be brought to this in the larger arena.
