So I got my new Spartan Harsey folder in the mail today. I opened it up and saw the blade steel was S35VN. I thought I must have gotten one out of an older batch or something but I could have swore it said it S45VN in the description. Something in the box caught my eye so look at it and it says it is marked with an asterisk because they mistakenly engraved S45VN blades with S35VN. I never would have paid any mind to the asterisk if I didn't see that little piece of paper. Any I thought it was cool and I'd share. Please excuse me if this has been posted about before.

I tried that with my math teacher once, but she said the asterisk didn't forgive my mistake.

Seriously though, if it's a good example of the knife you wanted, its value is certainly not diminished by the error,...and in the end may have been enhanced by it.

If it has a good heat treat and does what it's supposed to, I'd be fine with it.

The company posted about it on all their social media, and I believe they sent the whole batch to DLT Trading. I appreciate that they were up front about their mistake, and had a sense of humor about it (they supposedly started marking them on a Monday morning before the first pot of coffee was brewed). Now you have a great knife with a story behind it!

Hey were all human and make mistakes. Things happen. I will say this, I am glad they owned up to the mistake but that is a pretty big blunder in my opinion. I would have scrapped them or something, start over. If it was my knife I would be pretty pissed that my blade was marked wrong. It also feels as though they were like " yeah so we meant to do that"....you have a super rare awesomely marked with asterisk blunder blade! Congrats! Yeah um no, ill take The knife with the correct steel, correct markings, correct packaging or yoh give me my $500 back!

I have more disparaging news about the harsey folder. Last week I bought a brand new NW coast edition and it arrived completely unacceptable from the factory. It had unbelievable lock stick to the point of needing a pry bar to disengage the lock! The blade grind was 1\8" longer on one side-- totally noticeable. The anodizing wasn't as consistent as it should have been. There was a deep scratch on the pivot screw where the tool jumped out while torque was applied. ( this same scratch/mark was found on my second try with this knife!)
So I sent it back to vendor and I wanted to exchange it....sold out....had to find one from another vendor. This Second try came in as a $500 knife should be ...a great specimen with impeccable fit and finish and butter smooth action! I did have to hold one star back because weirdly this almost perfect knife showed up with the exact same scratch on the damn pivot disc again!!
This is clearly coming from the factory like this. I know they are playing catchup from last years debacle but they need to slow things down a bit and make sure they are catching all these goof ups! If this keeps up it will be detrimental to their small business and word gets out. In the end Im happy with my purchase, its an incredible knife and beautiful as well!
If they want to be in the same price point as RHK,CRK..... They need to step up their game. Knives costing over $500 should never leave their factory in such condition.......

Recently purchased the exact same knife. Similar issues. No lock stick, but action is really harsh. I love the design though. Not sure if I should exchange it, contact Spartan, or just disassemble clean and oil.
The latter is likely what she needs, and doing so might limit my other options.
Just checked, no “*” on mine, though. ;)
Im curious if you have the same scratch on the pivot disc?.....

I love the design as well and if I was you jowa, I would ask for an exchange with vendor if still available. If not then try out their warranty I've heard good things about. You might end up with free t shirt.....

This is now turning into something other than what the OP originally began discussing it is being moved to G,B &U

In fairness, these knives were sold that way. It's not like someone bought an S45VN SHF and it arrived marked S35VN* with a little "Our bad!" note from Spartan. They were advertised up front as exactly what happened. Nobody bought one and didn't know what they were getting.

Im starting to worry about my plague doctor I preorderd last month....good chance it too will have to go back

Are you going to hijack every Spartan thread now? You sent your knife back and got a full refund.
Get over it.

After reading this thread and forming my own opinion, I ordered one from DLT. It will be my first Spartan to try out.
Thanks beaverpelt beaverpelt for making this thread. Not that I need another knife, but why not 🤔

ETA my bad it's in pics not the description. My fault for not scrolling through them. Either way I'm completely satisfied with the knife and have no plans on returning it.

Still waiting on the refund...... Starting to not like the people in this forum....full of a**holes

You didn't answer my question.......are you going to hijack/troll every Spartan thread now?

Your previous comments have nothing to do with the subject of this thread and basically crap all over it.

Spartan is a first rate U.S. manufacturer owned and run by two fantastic men who can only be described as real American heroes.
They make a brilliant product and stand by their product 100%. The knife you purchased was not to your liking and you have returned it to the dealer for a FULL REFUND.

Why then do you feel it's necessary to come here and hijack and troll a thread because you are not getting instant satisfaction.......??
