Been eyeing the 2020 North West Coast Harsey Folder for a while now, but it's been going in and out of stock here very quickly (EU). Finally snagged one and, to my surprise, the blade's S45VN now:

Also, don't remember this mentioned before (and this is my first SHF) - the tang has a detent ball ramp. Sorry if that's old news.

Action's very Sebenzaish, except for the ramp part, which feels a bit gritty and slows the blade down gently, resulting in a very quiet click when it locks up. I kinda like that.

Fit and finish seem the usual SHF fare, at least based on reviews i've seen and read - it's a mixed bag of really nice chamfering, chamfering being completely absent in other places (like the spine jimping), nicely smoothed machine marks, and sharp machine marks (clip cutout) etc.

All the important stuff is great, though - action, blade centering, deep laser engraving, blade finish, fit of the components, ergonomics... It's a nice blade, and the small niggles aren't ruining it for me at all.

They're moving to S45VN throughout their lineup, starting with their folders. So far Ive seen it on the Pallas, the Plague Doctor SHF, and their new 3.25" SHF.

Let us know how the S45VN performs!

Haven't used it much yet, TBH, been carrying my CRKs as my dailies for the past 3 weeks as i was away from home visiting family.

AFAIK, yes, there have been review samples of S45VN CRKs floating around for a while now.
that's cool. From what I've seen with Mike Christy's review of Spyderco's use of s45 it seems to take an aggressive edge. Unsure how Spartan, CRK, et al will treat it o_O. Frankly, I've really been gravitating twards s35vn, s30v lately, simply because with all these companies using m390 etc, the HT won't be where it needs to be to maximize performance so I kind of just like keeping it simple.

I got my SHF NW last weekend and have been very pleased with the F&F and details on the knife. A number of reviewers and members here have pointed out the lack of consistency from one knife to the next and have mentioned little compromising niggles on their knives. I've noticed but one small thing on mine that was a little off which that was easily correctable by de-burring the screw holes under the filler plate and slipping a paper shim underneath to the rear of the screw to get the forward edge of the tab to lay flush with the rest of the handle. Perhaps Spartan has upped their game or perhaps I got lucky and just got a good one. Either way, I'll take it.

I read the S45VN review that Silent H Silent H linked above earlier, about the same time that I ordered my knife. The author--also one of our good members here, username @PiterM --goes into considerable detail about his year's experience with the steel on the Inkosi that Tim Reeve gave him to field use and report back. Certainly S45VN is an improvement over S35VN, but not dramatically different and offers incremental improvement in corrosion resistance, hardness, and sharpenablity at the sacrifice of a slight (un-needed?) degree of toughness. I'm glad to have a blade with that steel and will be interested to see how it compares with S35VN, steel that I like quite well.

I didn't notice the detent ball ramp on the blade tang until our OP mentioned it, but have been very pleased with the smooth closing action of the knife. It's a feature I greatly value on those few other knives I own that have it, and now I know why I'm liking the disengagement on this one so much.

Anyway, as it didn't happen without pics and I have a bunch, here 'ya go....

I want one of these SHF so bad for many years. But their hardware, and especially the pivot, are not really my style. Anyone is making different hardware for these?

I like S35vn on my CRK but I am waiting for the s45vn and oversized pivot/over travel stop evolution on the 4’´ Spartan in 2021

it would be a great knife!

A little late to the party, but I just got my NW Coast 2020 Special Edition, same as Chazzy's and Ante's, and I really like it.
I would also like a lanyard just like Steves!! His lanyard looks perfect for the NW Coast SHF imo

Absolutely killer.

I’ve been eyeing these Spartan Harley knives for quite some time. The thing that keeps me from pulling the trigger is the jimping. It looks aggressive. Frankly it’s what has kept me from pulling the trigger on a Hinderer as well. Curious to know - is it as aggressive as it looks? I have a CS AD15 - the jimping on that knife sucks. I have a number of the ZT Hinderer designs - the jimping on those knives are borderline IMO. I just don’t get the appeal of deep jimping grinds with sharp angles - some feel like dull serrations to me. For reference, jimping that I find useful and pleasant is the style CRK uses.

Anyone able to give me a comparison of the jimping on this Harsey with a ZT Model?
