Spartan Lakonian Short Sword For Sale
Also referred to as the Spartan Xiphos Sword. Hope you like it. Put a lot of time into this one. My hands are tired! Attached some better pictures. Sure does make a difference when you have daylight.

Video showing a demo of it’s slicing power, more pics, and clips from “Deadliest Warrior – Spartans”.

History of the Lakonian Short Sword:
The Spartan desire for fighting with blades from 12 to 15" long is best summed up by Nicholas Sekunda in his book "The Spartans" where he explains: The sword was probably shortened to make it handier in the crush which ensued when the two phalanx lines met. Normal Greek swords were medium-sized cut and thrust weapons. When the spear was broken, they would normally be used overhand to slash at the head of the opponent. The sword was shortened in order to encourage the Lakedaimonian warrior to use more effective thrusting attacks at the trunk of his opponent.

Shop Details:
Saw Blade Steel and 5160 Steel (for the Scales) were cut out and Normalized @ 1500 degrees until non magnetic, three times, to remove stresses and align crystals. Blade was file tested and is shown to be very hard.

cool looking. I think I might like it better with a bit more rounding on the handle "scales" and perhaps a leather wrap. Thinking of whacking something with an all steel handle made my wrist tingle.

I bet it moves the balance back toward the hand though. Makes the blade feel lighter.

Thanks for your comments. I was trying to go for the historical look. You can see this on the "Deadliest Warrier" show, they've been playing on spike TV. It doesn't have a leather wrap. I'll be putting a vid out on this, hopfully tonight, which will give you more information on it. Interesting show. I am certainly up for adding a leather wrap to anyone interested in buying, though. Chris,

Very, very cool. Love the scabbard and the whole historical aspect. Obvious quality here.

Thanks Wayne. That's a great compliment coming from you.

Thanks Leatherface. I may just add a leather wrap to the handle. Will add a picture when I do.

Chris

Very nice job. Love that sheath.
I like the way your work has gone. Just a ? have you ever thought of sand casting the handles as they did on the Roman swords. Just something to stress your brain.

Thanks buddy. Some day I may just try that. In the meantime, I kicked it up a notch. Added black cord wrap to the sword and etching to the scabbard. Added the pictures above.
