Does anyone else think that the logo looks like a tick.

I cant decide for myself what to think about the logo, but my buddy and my dad keep giving me crap about the fact that the logo looks like a tick. I dont care that they are giving me crap about it, I think its a funny observation.

Was there any specific reason for this design? Maybe a badly drawn picture by someone who tried to create what he thought the logo should look like and it ended up on the knives?

And THE Tick is a great superhero.:)
And Spyderco is the superhero of the knife world, with all the cool designs and neat materials.
It's all good.

Yes they are.

Tell them to get their eyes checked. A tick has all it's legs curved towards onside, reducing the ergo's in the hand. It's also got a head that pops off easily; this will induce blade play. Toss in the fat bottom and you've got an unbalanced, loose, and crummy knife.

I've also always thought it looked like a tick.

I still buy the knives... but it looks like a tick.

Yes. It looks like a tick.

Or maybe an overweight spider.

That's why they call it the Spyderco Bug, I guess.

Personally, I've never met a cute spider. Cool looking, maybe, especially the Golden Orb Spinner family they have out here.

But cute, no. Company mascots need to at least have some cuteness factor to them.

The "bug" was something of a play on words anyway. The company name is based on the automotive term Spyder, rather than on arachnids. The "bug" was intended to avoid the negative feelings some folks have toward real spiders. I'd say it succeeds pretty well at that. At the same time, the OP is far from the first peson ever to note its resemblance to a tick.

Well that little tick has been sucking the blood out of my wallet for some time. It kinda grows on ya...

That little tick has been sucking blood out of me!

Its like clockwork-every Friday at work, I am not allowed to use knives or I'll somehow cut myself.

Except for this last Friday, I have cut myself every Friday somehow using my knife. Its become a theme around the shop. "Dont let Nick use his knife on Friday, you know what'll happen!"
