Spec Bump thoughts

Hi Joe, I coudn't made my pic yesterday but I have found this one that posted OilMan in another thread that shows it, I'm pretty sure it's the same as yours... That screw should move up and down, have you tried to unscrew it a bit and try?

Well after a few weeks of usage I think I hate the pocket clip of the Spec Bump I bought so I tried to manipulate the clip and re-configure it:mad: ....... nope didn't work! So I hate the large profile of this clip and after I nicked the black coating off of it I decided to bead blast it and polish it for a satin look..... well it looked better but still the same scenario really didn't like the way it fit on the knife while in my pocket! So after looking at my collection and some "Spare" clips I had I found a great replacement that works quite well..... I found that a Gerber "Vector" pocket clip will fit without a single mod and looks & works better then the Kershaw clip! It fits perfectly and if you own a Benchmade "Blue Box" tool kit with the torx bits you can easily replace the Kershaw clip with the smaller more tactical looking "Vector" clip. Although the clip has 3 holes and only 2 are used you can fill the other hole with either epoxy and a dab of black paint to conceal it or leave it be but I think this clip is more in tune with the knife then the original IMHO! Perhaps you can purchase a clip directly from Gerber for this mod or if you own the Vector trade clips but I think this clip fits the knife well and glides & guides into the pocket better then the Kershaw version!!!

I just got my Spec Bump yesterday. First thing I did was almost chop the end of my pinky off trying to close it, but 'cest la vie, now we're blood-brothers!

Anyway, got a couple of questions for anyone who might know....

What material is the spacer made of? I can't tell if it's metal (aluminum perhaps?) or something like G-10 or whatever.

Second, does anyone else have a spacer that is not flush with the liner? Mine protrudes just a little above the frame/liner on the non-clip side. The protrusion starts about a half an inch away from the pivot, a little before the apex of the radius, and extends on down to about 3/4" before the butt of the handle. I'd say the protrusion is in the neighborhood of less than 1/64", and it's not a huge deal to me, but it does strike me as less fit 'n finish than I would expect on a knife that retails for $180.00+.

Third, how loose does the thumb-stud/lock need to be? In the open position, it's locked up tight with no play, but in the closed position, there's not only quite a bit of play, but it actually rattles when shaken (re: while walking with it in my pocket) or touched. I see that both studs are hex-headed so I can tighten them up if I want to. The rattle is not loud or overly-annoying, I'm just not used to it, so if the mechanism needs to be that loose in order to function properly, that's no problem. I just want to know is all.

Don't get me wrong, I love the knife so far, and anticipate loving it even more as time goes by. The problems I describe are minor to me, and really, I'm just looking for a couple of answers as opposed to lodging a complaint. Thanks for any help y'all can offer. I can upload pics if necessary if I haven't explained myself well.

PS: Not bad typing for a guy with only three working fingers on his right hand, eh? ;)

Mine rattles too when closed. So it is either normal or we are both unlucky.

I think they have to be a little loose so that they can rotate when the knife springs open and the studs lock against the frame.

I have the same raised bacspacer like yours. Its probably just delrin. No biggie.

The thumb stud locking bar shud be fine as it is. It needs to be a bit loose cause if its tight and sand or dirt gets in, it could jam. As long as the blade locks up tight, i have no complaints.
