Special Case knife as present

I'll give another vote for great eastern cutlery. Beautiful knives. I think your father will be able to tell it is quality even I he doesn't recognize the name. In fact you could learn a little about them and educate him on them.

Personally I wouldn't worry about an engraving etc. I feel most guys just love a nice tool. It's a nice gesture but I don't think I need initials in my knife to know its mine. As far as scrolling, I just think that takes away from usability. If he is a collector the scrolling could be appreciated.

Ok I am going to buck the trend (pun intended)! He sounds like a hard working no nonsense kind of guy. What about a Buck 110? You can go to the buck website and order a customized even engraved one for about your budget. It would come with a belt sheath and is about as traditional as they come. Buck is as well known as Case and is a working mans knife. Steven

I think you should take a look at a small saddlehorn 3 1/2" closed. This is the Mother of Pearl model which is hard to find but they have them in a variety of handles in your price range. The site that we are not to name here has them as well. As far as engraving goes it's a personal decision. It will make the knife less valuable if that matters. I'll bet your more confused than ever? Don't forget the Barlow pattern. It's a time tested working man's pocket knife.
