I was out back the other morning doing a little sharpening in the nice weather when this little guy decided to try and get a free lesson while sitting on my stone. I was going to turn him into a smashed pile of goo but he looked kinda cool and decided to take a pic.

Good pic! Pretty sure this is a Jumping Spider(Salticidae). They are quite the aggressive little fellas and I've had them charge at me when trying to snap a pic or two of them. They are very jumpy and jittery. I always thought of them as little Sherman tanks:-)

Yeah, you guys are right -- it's a jumping spider. KEmSAT, so you know these things can jump 50 ft. They burrow into your ear and eat your brain. They can jump around corners and right through screen doors. Really!

Ahhh, sounds like the dreaded Japanese Jumping Ninja Spider...

I actually chose my username so that folks would see more of the Recluse and so might recognize it better. I also liked that this is an animal I was very farmiliar with as it infests my grandad's property. Its southern. I liked that too.

They like to snuggle up in your shoes, and towels, and sheets.

This is a full sized adult.

I think I discovered a recluse yesterday, crawled out of a light I was working on. Reacted poorly to being spritzed with some carb cleaner I had on the bench. First spider is actually small and pretty cool. I kept one as a pet for a few months,it fed on small grasshoppers.

thanks for the cool pics guys . spiders are fun to look at but the cake goes to Joel Stave for the humor. thanks again.

I hate when I forget that I made a thread......

Thanks for the comments.

Boy, I have arachnophobia!!! I actually like spiders, just not crawling on me (too bad their isn't a smiley icon that shows the "heebie-jeebies":D).

I killed a blackwidow under some old lumber I was clearing out and my barn with no door is a massive spider breeding/feeding zone. I'm trying to find a Brown Recluse so I can show my son...they can all vary a little, but I'm sure I have a few in the barn.

Cool spider though...if it was bigger (dog size), it would make a great pet:D
